When the January transfer window comes around, Victor Orta must yelp in horror at what could be to come.

In the last two years, his work with Leeds has been nothing short of a nightmare, but that’s not entirely been his fault.

In 2019, a deal had been agreed to sign Daniel James from Swansea. The winger penned his contract and was pictured holding a Leeds shirt at Elland Road. However, in the dying embers on deadline day the Swans didn’t pick up the phone and a move fell through.

Then, just a year later, a move for Jean-Kevin Augustin turned into a complete failure.

The Frenchman had enormous potential but he is failing to discover it, and his spell at Leeds summed things up. He played just 48 minutes for the first-team with a major flaw proving to be his fitness.

He didn’t work himself into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans and then a fierce legal battle followed. The Yorkshire side had an obligation to buy but failed to cough up the money required to RB Leipzig because of how the loan spell had gone.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though Leeds have learnt their lesson. That’s because they’re supposedly chasing Fiorentina striker Christian Kouame this month.

The forward, who earns £16k-per-week in Italy, has been nothing short of a flop in Serie A and has scored just once for La Viola. His season has been disastrous and bears huge similarities to the one that Augustin was having before he came to Elland Road.

He spent the first half of last season at Monaco but like Kouame, scored a solitary goal. Therefore, one has to question why Leeds are pursuing someone with such a shoddy record once again.

Of course, adding squad depth is important but Patrick Bamford has been the undisputed number 9 for the last two and a half years now. Even when he’s not playing well Bielsa still picks him.

Though, the fact of the matter, is that the attacker is in the form of his life. Bamford already has ten goals in 17 outings this season so it’s not as though he’s going to be dislodged in a hurry.

Consequently, signing Kouame would be nothing more than a waste of money. Like Augustin, he wouldn’t play and thus, would find it difficult to score goals.

Crystal Palace came away with a well-earned point from their trip to the Emirates to take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Arsenal failed to offer much going forwards as they were largely kept in check by a resolute Roy Hodgson side.

Whilst Eberechi Eze may receive most of the plaudits for yet another impressive performance on the left wing and Vicente Guaita made four vital saves, there’s no doubting that Hodgson will have been delighted with Christian Benteke’s latest display as he proved to be a massive handful for the Arsenal defence.

As per SofaScore, Benteke – to his credit – was given a high 7.5 grade for his efforts, which was higher than both the lively Eze and his strike partner, Wilfried Zaha, who received ratings of 7.4 and 6.6 for their performances respectively.

Diminutive right-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles was clearly targeted as the Belgian striker was placed directly against him with surging runs towards the back post, with the 30-year-old coming out on top by winning eight out of his 12 individual battles in total. By comparison, Maitland-Niles only won five out of his ten duels overall, and it’s no wonder he was hauled off nearly halfway through the second half.

None of the Palace players looked more alive in the box than Benteke, as he took six shots in total, including two on target, which was more shots than any other player last night and more than double the amount attempted by Zaha, who would normally be expected to be the focal point in the Palace attack.

Perhaps Benteke should’ve buried his chances, but he still gave the Arsenal defence a seriously hard time, as he successfully completed two dribbles from the same amount of attempts (100%), which far exceeded his meagre average of 0.3 per game, meaning he was playing better than usual from an attacking perspective.

He also made one tackle and one clearance, showing he wasn’t afraid to do the dirty work to help Palace keep their first clean sheet since the 2-0 victory over Premier League strugglers Sheffield United at Selhurst Park earlier this month.

Whilst Eze will perhaps steal the spotlight for leading the Palace counter-attack, this doesn’t mean that Benteke’s contributions should be totally ignored, either, and as such, it’s fair to say that he was Hodgson’s unsung hero against Arsenal.

The £8m-rated Belgium international has often been criticised for his lack of goals but it would be remiss to ignore his importance to this Palace side. With his contract set to expire in the summer, Benteke has been heavily linked with the Selhurst Park exit, but it would be a surprise to see him leave, given his resurgence and dramatic turnaround in form.

O diretor adjunto de futebol do Timão, Eduardo Ferreira, confirmou as tratativas, mas manteve cautela ao falar sobre Willians.

– Willians é um dos que fazem parte da nossa lista de volantes que interessam, mas por enquanto não podemos dizer que tem algo avançado. Está sendo conversado – disse o dirigente.

Nascido na Praia Grande, Willians tem 29 anos e passou por Santo André, Flamengo, Udinese (ITA) e Internacional antes de chegar ao Cruzeiro.

O técnico Tite conta em seu elenco com os volantes Bruno Henrique, que vem sendo titular nos treinamentos, Cristian, Marciel e Gustavo Vieira.

£18 million. That’s how much Leeds United will be paying to make Michael Cuisance their newest summer signing if a deal comes to fruition.

It seems to be just a matter of time before the Bayern Munich man is announced as a Leeds player, and while it’s incredibly exciting to see such a highly-rated young midfielder sign for the Yorkshire outfit, it does leave a number of questions around Adam Forshaw’s future.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played much football over the past 12 months, with an injury keeping him out of action since United’s game against Charlton last October.

Forshaw is undoubtedly a Bielsa favourite, with the Argentine saying that he defends in a similar manner to Kalvin Phillips and attacks in a similar way to Mateusz Klich, and when you consider that those two have started every Premier League game so far, that is high praise.

However, with Forshaw still out with injury and Cuisance coming in, it’s hard to see how he gets back into the first-team picture.

Klich and Phillips are nigh on undroppable, with Klich starting all-but-one of Leeds’ league games since Bielsa took charge, while Phillips is arguably United’s best player, earning an England call-up before he even made his Premier League debut.

Of course, there is a third midfield role that is usually taken up by a more attacking player with Rodrigo, Pablo Hernandez and Tyler Roberts all playing that role in recent weeks, but there is sufficient strength in depth in that role to the point where Forshaw isn’t really an option.

A lot has changed at Elland Road since Forshaw went down injured, including new recruits coming in and taking his spot. Now, the 28-year-old is in something of a no man’s land at Leeds where he is a depth option in a position that doesn’t really get rotated all that much.

In other news, one Leeds loanee showed exactly what he can do last weekend.

– É um premio muito grande. Já me imaginei estar perto do Messi. Será uma coisa perfeita. Três dias depois de sagrar-se hexacampeão brasileiro no Rio de Janeiro, o Corinthians só queria comemorar o título em sua nova casa pela primeira vez. Mas por que não dar um baile no rival que chama de freguês, golear por 6 a 1, com gritos de “Olé”, “É Campeão” e o “O freguês voltou”, festejar gols inesperados – quase folclóricos – e levantar a taça ao melhor estilo? Nem mesmo um sonho teria tantos elementos de glorificação como neste domingo.

Enquanto o Timão só pensava em festa, o São Paulo entrou em campo, na teoria, para seguir na briga pela vaga na Libertadores, principalmente após entrar no G4 com a vitória sobre o Atlético-MG na última rodada (por sinal, o resultado ajudou na conquista do título corintiano). Sem Ganso, lesionado, Milton Cruz deixou Luis Fabiano no banco para apostar na estrela de Kardec. Mas o time só chegou com perigo aos 15, com Rogério, que parou em Cássio após entrar sozinho na área rival.

Tite tratou de fugir da responsabilidade para não arranhar a festa e encheu sua equipe de reservas. Pior para quem? Para o São Paulo, que encontrou jogadores com vontade de mostrar serviço. A partir dos 25 minutos, Denis começou a virar o melhor do Tricolor, e nem mesmo assim evitou o pior. Felipe cabeceou, o goleiro salvou, mas Bruno Henrique fez no rebote. Dracena cabeceou, o goleiro salvou, mas o próprio zagueiro pegou o rebote para marcar. Antes, ainda teve gol do contestado Ángel Romero, que completou, também de cabeça, após escanteio de Lucca. A volta do intervalo indicava o Corinthians com o pé no freio, com cara de satisfeito. Mas a diferença de qualidade, mesmo em um reservas x titulares, foi enorme. Uma roda de bobinho que nasceu com Romero, passou por Bruno Henrique, teve toque de letra de Danilo e terminou com gol de Lucca. Logo depois, Romero arrancou em contra-ataque, cruzou e Hudson fez contra. Estava 5 a 0, como na goleada da campanha do penta conquistado pelo Corinthians de Tite em 2011.

O São Paulo fez o improvável e descontou com Carlinhos, que completou cruzamento de Kardec.Na onda dos improváveis, Romero fez mais uma bela jogada pela direita, entrou na área e sofreu pênalti de Reinaldo. Cristian bateu e ampliou: 6 a 1.

Se não bastasse tudo o que aconteceu, Alan Kardec ainda perdeu um pênalti defendido por Cássio. Ainda tem gente que não vai acreditar que passou de um sonho. Mas que sonho! Aos são-paulinos, resta acordar do pesadelo e lutar pela vaga no G4, se é que vão restar forças após a humilhação em Itaquera.

Aston Villa are yet to make any moves in the summer transfer window – a stark contrast to last year- but latest reports linking them with a move for a Premier League outcast is rather worrying…

What’s the word?

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, the Midlands outfit are one of the teams showing an interest in Liverpool winger Harry Wilson this summer along with newly-promoted Leeds United and Newcastle United.

However, they have been told it’ll cost around £20m to secure him permanently from the top-flight champions.

It’s thought that this fee has put off those keen parties so far and perhaps it should stay that way from Villa’s part.

£20m mistake?

The 23-year-old did indeed bag seven times this campaign for a relegated AFC Bournemouth side but a fair fraction of these were from dead-ball situations whilst the Welsh international only averaged 1.8 shots and 0.5 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

One of those goals was actually at Villa Park early on in the season when Wilson gave Neil Taylor the runaround – per SofaScore, the winger recorded five shots and had 90% passing accuracy whilst his fellow countryman won just one duel and picked up a mediocre 6.6 rating.

Eddie Howe lauded his contribution to the Cherries as “hugely impressive” with his Reds boss Jurgen Klopp claiming that his set-piece ability is “world-class” and “incredible”.

Though despite this, you have to wonder if his addition is needed at Villa Park with Trezeguet and Jack Grealish occupying either wing.

If Jota were to leave, there would be a spot available in the squad but is it wise to splash £20m on a backup? Probably not, especially given the club spent over £140m last summer and were still involved in a relegation scrap.

It could well be another blunder in the transfer market from Villa.

Somehow Arsenal have found themselves in a nightmare scenario with their star player’s contract again.

You’d think they would learn their lesson after losing both Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United in the final year of their contracts, but once again, arguably Arsenal’s most important player’s contract is running down.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has just a year left on his deal, and with the striker yet to put pen to paper, the Gunners need to have a plan for if he does leave.

Fortunately, Arsenal have been linked to a few alternative options.

What’s the story then?

Le10Sport are reporting that Arsenal have their eyes on a plethora of new attacking options such as Raul Jimenez, Moussa Dembele, Memphis Depay and most interestingly Allan Saint-Maximin.

Jimenez is apparently their top priority, but if they do end up landing Saint-Maximin, you have to wonder if that’s going to work.

Square peg, round hole

Now, we’re not saying that the Newcastle winger isn’t a fantastic player, his hat-trick of assists earlier this month proved that he’s dangerous when he’s on form, but we just can’t see how he replaces Aubameyang.

The Gabonese forward’s game is all about goals, he’s hit 50 Premier League goals quicker than any other Arsenal player while also picking up a Golden Boot last season, and Saint-Maximin just doesn’t have that type of end product.

With just three league goals to his name this term, it would take around 17 seasons for him to hit 50 Premier League strikes if he continues at this rate, in comparison, Aubameyang did it in just two and a half terms.

Saint-Maximin would certainly add something to Arsenal’s side, he’s the second-most proficient dribbler in the Premier League and he’s incredibly exciting to watch, but you can’t help but feel they’d be making a grave error if he was signed as Aubameyang’s replacement.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle Manchester United for Valencia star Geoffrey Kondogbia in the summer. 

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has identified Kondobgia as the signing he needs to rebuild the midfield. According to Foot Mercato, as relayed by Ricky Sacks, Spurs are interested in signing him this summer.

Valencia are now open to offers for the veteran as he has entered the last two years of his current contract.

Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign the African during his time in charge of White Hart Lane and it looks like his successor will manage to land the £30m-valued ace in the summer.

The Bats are in turmoil as a power struggle has broken out between the players and backroom staff.

Valencia have struggled to fend off financial pressures and may have to resort to a quickfire sale of key players to cover the costs of these uncertain times.

Kondogbia, 27, has made 27 appearances in La Liga this season, scoring one goal, supplying one assist, making 2.3 tackles per game, averaging 2.1 interceptions, and completing 1.2 clearances so far (via WhoScored).

Tottenham and Man United have entered the race to sign the box-to-box midfielder, amid interest from overseas. The powerhouse is pushing for a move to the Premier League, which should give both clubs a boost.

The Lilywhites were linked to the former Inter Milan man several years ago but a move never materialised.

Standing at 1,88m tall, he cuts an imposing figure in the midfield, which explains why Mourinho is determined to get his man.

The Portuguese spent huge sums of money on Nemanja Matic to bring him first to Stamford Bridge and then to Old Trafford, and Kondogbia is a similar build to the Serbian.

Valencia will be without Champions League football next season, which has weakened their position in the transfer window, and this is something Daniel Levy could be looking to exploit. They will not be able to demand a hefty asking price as a result.
