Arsenal: Mohamed Elneny looks to be heading to the Turkish League

It seems like Mohamed Elneny will be offloaded by Arsenal in the summer, and the latest reports suggest that the midfielder will be leaving sooner rather than later as he already has sides interested in signing him.

According to Turkish media outlet Asist Analiz, via Football.London, Elneny has already agreed personal terms with Super Lig team Trabzonspor, and all that is left is for the two sides to agree a deal.

At the moment, the Turkish outfit are waiting to see the price-tag that Arsenal place on the defensive midfielder. If it is too much for their liking, they will look into the possibility of a season-long loan.

Elneny, who has won the Swiss League four times, per Transfermarkt, is clearly not seen as a player that Arsenal want to use as he was loaned out to Besiktas last season. As a player if you are getting loaned out at the age of 28, it probably means the club are trying to move you on and it looks like this is exactly the case with Egyptian.

Therefore, if the Gunners can get some decent money for the player, who is valued at £4.20 million, then it would be a good move for all involved. Trabzonspor get a player that they want, Elneny gets to play consistent football in a league that he is used to after he played there last season, and Arsenal get some money that they can use to buy players that Arteta feels will strengthen the squad.

Pape Cisse would be another Wolves transfer disaster

Wolverhampton Wanderers didn’t make too many additions during the summer transfer window, but it is awfully telling that two of the players that joined have already seen the exit door at Molineux.

One of which was Jesus Vallejo, who ultimately struggled with the demands of the Premier League. After dropping one clanger, he was rarely trusted by Nuno Santo ever again as he made a total of just seven appearances, only one start was in the top-flight, and that was in their biggest defeat of the season – a 5-2 to Chelsea.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

It’s clear to see that English football is a different ball game as the 23-year-old arrived with experience in La Liga for parent club Real Madrid and in the Bundesliga for Frankfurt.

This week, the west Midlands outfit have been linked to what could become a similar case, should they win the race for the player.

According to Sdna, Wolves along with West Ham, Palace and Sheffield United are all interested in Olympiacos’ 6 foot 6 colossus Pape Abou Cisse this summer, and any move could cost the club around €20m (£17.5m).

However, this is something Nuno must avoid otherwise he’ll be staring down the barrel at yet another transfer mistake at the club.

The 24-year-old is capped on the international stage for Senegal and has been playing in Greece’s top tier – but just like with Vallejo, he’d arrive with no experience in England.

Despite Cisse finding the net against Arsenal in the Europa League, and subsequently earning him a place in the Team of the Week, it isn’t enough to suggest that he could deal with the step-up in quality that a switch would bring.

And thus, the Portuguese boss must rethink his thoughts behind this one as there must be far better options than this Olympiacos titan.

Crystal Palace fans hail Andros Townsend for showing against Liverpool

A number of Crystal Palace fans have praised Andros Townsend for his performance in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.

It did appear that Palace would be snatching a point against the Reds when Townsend provided the assist for Wilfried Zaha to level the scores in the 82nd minute.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side had other ideas, scoring a second through Roberto Firmino in the 85th minute to collect yet another three points.

The Palace fans will never be happy with a defeat, but many were pleased with the performance of Townsend against the Premier League leaders.

According to WhoScored, as well as providing an assist, the Englishman boasted a pass success rate of 92%, whilst he had two shots and completed four successful dribbles during his 90 minutes on the field.

Townsend was on the wrong end of the final result, but his performance certainly made a positive impression on the home fans.

Everton’s Tom Davies must take his chance after Andre Gomes’ injury, says Michael Ball

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers.

Everton’s Tom Davies must take his chance at Everton now that Andre Gomes is out injured, says Michael Ball.

What did he say?

Andre Gomes is going to face many months out of action after his horrific injury sustained against Tottenham Hotspur. The nasty ankle fracture forced the 26-year-old to undergo surgery and as he faces a long rehabilitation process fellow midfielders must step up.

Ball believes, despite the sad circumstances, that Davies must be the man to take Gomes’ place and faces a potentially career-defining time at Goodison Park.

The former Everton man told the Liverpool Echo: “It’s come under very sad circumstances but Tom has to grab his chance now.

“Since he’s come into the team, he’s shown the quality he’s got and hasn’t let anyone down,” Ball added.

“I’m made up for Tom and he just needs a good little run now of six or seven games where he’s keeping those 8/9 out of 10 performances going so he can make the spot his own and there could even be opportunities for him in the England set-up.

“Obviously Tom has got to focus on Everton first and foremost but if he can put consistent performances in at his best level, it could really set up his career.”

Career-defining period

Davies has been in the Everton squad for a while now, having burst onto the scene in 2016-17 where he made 24 Premier League appearances. This period saw the academy graduate bag two goals and provide three assists for the Toffees.

Now, at 22 years old, the Englishman has a fantastic opportunity to prove himself as the future of Everton and justify the hype that surrounded his breakthrough.

Marco Silva has been reluctant to play Davies this season, handing him just 283 minutes of league action. However, if the Portuguese international wants to build for the future, he must invest in Davies until Gomes returns.

It will, of course, be months until the former Barcelona man returns.

But now, it is time for Davies to prove to Silva that he is capable of thriving in the heart of Everton’s midfield.

Manchester United fans would rather have Wilfred Ndidi over Declan Rice

Some Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they’d rather have Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi than West Ham United’s Declan Rice.

The Mirror reports that the Red Devils are monitoring the England international ahead of a potential £70m move for the Hammers academy graduate, who started England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on Friday evening.

Rice has started all eight of West Ham’s Premier League games this season, and at just 20 years of age, looks to be a real prospect.

However, a number of United fans on Twitter have named who they would rather sign ahead of the West Ham No.41 – Leicester star Ndidi.

The 22-year-old has started all but one of the Foxes’ league games this term, scoring two goals.

Ndidi cost Leicester a reported £15m back in 2017, and has emerged as a key cog in their midfield – his form has helped Brendan Rodgers’ men to 4th in the table as things stand.

Let’s see what the United fans on Twitter have been saying…

Liverpool: Bologna’s Christoph Winterling turned down commercial and marketing director role at Anfield

Christoph Winterling, commercial and marketing director at Serie A club Bologna, was offered a similar role at Champions League holders Liverpool.

However, as reported by the print edition of Corriere dello Sport [via Sport Witness], he turned down the job offer from the Premier League club, saying that he feels that Bologna have a “bright future”.

Corriere dello Sport stated [via Sport Witness] that Winterling is targeting European qualification with Bologna, with both Inter and AC Milan reportedly wanting him as well.

Perhaps Winterling has very strong faith in the project at Bologna, because Liverpool would surely seem a very attractive proposition from a commercial as well as a footballing point of view.

Liverpool are eighth in Forbes’ list of the world’s most valuable football clubs, with a valuation of $2.18bn (£1.73bn), a 12% increase on 2018, with revenues of $613m (£484.86m) and an operating income of $128m (£101.24m).

The Liverpool Echo reported that the club took in more than £250m from winning the Champions League and finishing second in the Premier League last season.

Liverpool are also at the centre of a tug-of-war between New Balance and Nike over the rights to supply the club’s kits, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. The former currently hold the contract but the latter are working on a £70m deal to team up with the Anfield club, as per The Athletic.

The club’s social media following illustrates its global appeal, with Liverpool ninth in the world for this metric, according to the Global Digital Football Benchmark [via Inside Sport], which stated that the Reds have 32 million Facebook fans, 11 million Instagram followers, 12 million Twitter followers and one million YouTube subscribers, with a further 11 million connections on other social platforms.

Liverpool’s booming fortunes both on and off the field should make them a hugely attractive commercial proposition, so Winterling must have strong faith in Bologna if he turned down the Premier League club to stay with his current employers.

Once the Reds keep getting results on the pitch and raking in the money off it, though, they shouldn’t be unduly affected by Winterling’s decision to snub them for Bologna.
