Liverpool interested in signing "quick" star who previously ruined TAA

As Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool farewell tour continues to take several bumps along the road, Mohamed Salah's future has quickly become the centre of headlines, which could see the Reds turn their attention towards finding a replacement for the Egyptian this summer.

Liverpool transfer news

Out of form and seemingly out of energy at the moment, Salah's disagreement with Klopp before coming on against West Ham United was the last thing that Liverpool and the winger needed. It has since sparked several headlines and a number of questions. And with just one year remaining on Salah's contract, one of the most prominent questions has centred around whether it's simply time for those at Anfield to cash in.

Liverpool hit the jackpot on £75m "legend" who was better than Salah

ByAngus Sinclair Apr 30, 2024

David Ornstein has since shut down any rumours about Salah's Anfield future, but it's a long summer ahead and Michael Edwards will undoubtedly have some decisions to make. If a tempting offer does come in for the 32-year-old in one of Liverpool's last chances to cash in, what happens next will be incredibly interesting. If a ruthless decision is made, however, the Reds will need a replacement who can fill any major void left behind.

Napoli forwardKhvicha Kvaratskhelia.

With that said, according to Georgian reporter Bacho Tsalugelashvili, Liverpool are interested in signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia amid doubts over his future at Napoli. Tsalugelashvili told a Naples-based radio station (via Area Napoli): "Is Kvaratskhelia's agent talking to De Laurentiis? I believe the agent will meet with the president next week. However, either a contract renewal will materialize or Kvara will go to a top club. I don't know if it's Barcelona or another team.

"Could it be a Premier League club? I don't know. Liverpool are also interested in Kvaratskhelia, although Barcelona's interest is more concrete. There are management sources that confirm the will of the Blaugrana club."

As things stand, Kvaratskhelia's current Napoli contract is set to expire in the summer of 2027, meaning that the Serie A giants aren't in a position of panic just yet, though this could change if Liverpool step up their interest this summer.

"Quick" Kvaratskhelia can change direction of Liverpool attack

Ahead of Arne Slot's arrival, questions have fallen the way of Liverpool's frontline, with suggestions that changes are needed once the Feyenoord boss arrives. And one of those changes could come on the right-hand side and how that role is used. Under Klopp, Salah has always been more of an inside forward than a classic winger, but Kvaratskhelia is less of a goal threat and more of the latter – something that could yet suit Slot.

Liverpool have experienced Kvaratskhelia's quality first-hand, too, with the winger getting the better of Trent Alexander-Arnold in Napoli's shock 4-1 victory over the Reds in the 2022/23 Champions League group stage.

Earning Klopp's praise as a result, the Liverpool boss said via This is Anfield: “I know people will talk about one or two situations when Trent tried to be in front of him and the ball goes through.

“But he is really good, the boy, and really quick and you have to defend him together in these moments. When he has the advantage of the first movement, then he is already gone."

Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd have agreement with 53 y/o who will be "important"

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United have an agreement with one target who could be “really important” going forward.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe making Man Utd changes

It has been an eventful 2024 so far at Old Trafford, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe making his mark in Manchester. Ratcliffe and INEOS are already looking at building the ‘Wembley of the North’ in Manchester, whereas former Manchester City CEO Omar Berrada has made the move to Old Trafford.

There could soon be more off-field arrivals, though, with Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth and Southampton’s Jason Wilcox targets for the boardroom.

A manager to replace Erik ten Hag could also be on the horizon, with a plethora of candidates including Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, England boss Gareth Southgate, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and Brentford’s Thomas Frank just some of the names mooted.

He will be available for free this summer.

ByJoe Nuttall Apr 16, 2024

In regards to transfers, Ratcliffe has hinted that the cash may not be splashed. Asked about moves for superstars Jude Bellingham or Kylian Mbappe, Ratcliffe said: “He’s a great footballer (Bellingham) but it’s not where our focus is. The solution isn’t spending a lot of money on a couple of great players.

"They’ve done that, if you look at the last 10 years. The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes, managing and organising the club. We must make sure we get recruitment right, such a vital part of running a football club is getting recruitment right, finding new players.”

On the idea of signing Mbappe, who is on course to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, Ratcliffe added: “I’d rather find the next Mbappe, rather than spend a fortune to buy success. It’s not that clever to buy Mbappe, anybody could figure that one out.”

Someone who could be key in securing deals for the next Mbappe may well be Wilcox, who is being lined up as the new technical director at Old Trafford.

Jason Wilcox to Man Utd latest

Wilcox is yet to officially seal a move to Manchester from the south coast, and Romano has shared the latest following the news of John Murtough’s departure after almost 11 years at Old Trafford.

Romano, talking to GiveMeSport, said that Wilcox, who has an agreement with the Red Devils, “looks like he’ll be really important for United’s present and future” and isn’t speaking with any other club.

Man Utd ready to accept offer for £150k-p/w player currently behind Mainoo

As much of a success story as Kobbie Mainoo's Manchester United rise has so far been, his place in Erik ten Hag's starting side looks set to see one particular player make a swift exit this summer.

Man Utd transfer news

Ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's first summer at the helm, most of the focus has been on the future of Ten Hag, with Gareth Southgate reportedly the top target to replace the Dutchman should it be necessary in the coming months, whilst Brighton & Hove Albion's Roberto De Zerbi has also been mentioned.

Meanwhile, when it comes to incomings, rumours are beginning to circle over United's chances of signing Brentford's Ivan Toney this summer in a deal worth up to £70m. The forward would certainly be a statement signing, but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will make their move.

Casemiro has struggled this season.

ByTom Cunningham Mar 22, 2024

One position that United no longer need to worry about, however, is central midfield after the emergence of Mainoo. The 18-year-old has taken Old Trafford and now England by storm and doesn't look like slowing down anytime soon.

The academy graduate's rise looks set to come at a cost for one player though. According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Manchester United are ready to accept offers for Christian Eriksen this summer, with the Dane unhappy after losing his place to Mainoo and falling down the pecking order.

Clubs from Saudi Arabia are reportedly keeping an eye on Eriksen's situation and could make their move. It could be a simple deal to negotiate too, with Eriksen confirming his unhappiness when speaking to Tipsbladet via Fabrizio Romano.

Mainoo has earned Eriksen's spot

It's a long way back from here for Eriksen, who is now 32-years-old and arguably past his best whilst watching a fresher face in Mainoo emerge to earn his place under Ten Hag.

With Eriksen unhappy and United now reportedly ready to accept offers for the Dane, we could see one of the simplest deals of the summer take place and see the Red Devils clear a reported £150k off their weekly wage bill. The stats show that Mainoo is more than ready to fill the gap potentially left by Eriksen too.

Man Utd star must now start every game after 8/10 "masterclass" v Everton

Manchester United picked up a vital victory in their quest for Champions League football, beating Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford.

This was the Red Devils’ eighth clean sheet of the campaign, the joint-third most in the Premier League.

Andre Onana

However, luck was most definitely on their side, alongside the Toffees woeful finishing. The visitors had 23 attempts at goal, which now means that only Sheffield United have faced more shots than Erik ten Hag’s team this season.

Nonetheless, one individual stepped up once again and put in an 8/10 performance, according to The Manchester Evening News.

Jonny Evans’ 23/24 campaign in numbers

In the summer, Jonny Evans returned to Man United on a free transfer from Leicester City after leaving the club back in 2015 to join West Bromwich Albion.

The 36-year-old was never meant to be a frequent starter this season, with the fact that he only started once in pre-season being the biggest indicator of that.

Manchester United'sJonnyEvansapplauds fans after the match

However, with Lisandro Martinez suffering from multiple injuries and the left-back position being vacated by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Evans has really stepped up amid the defensive injury crisis, with football creator Liam Canning even stating the following.

Indeed, the Northern Ireland rock was impressive once again this weekend during his 18th Premier League game of the season, the second-most for a United centre-half behind Raphael Varane.

Man Utd have been saved by Ten Hag's best deal yet who cost £0

ByTom Lever Mar 5, 2024 Jonny Evans’ performance vs Everton in numbers

Everton had so much joy against United on Saturday, and if it wasn’t for Evans’ excellent proactive defending and experience, it’s fair to say that it would have been another disappointing day at the office.

The number 35 dealt started consecutive games after impressing in the Manchester Derby, and he recovered from a knock in time to make the starting lineup this weekend.

This was Evans’ fourth clean sheet in 2023/24 when featuring from the off, which proves that his inclusion in the team brings success.

As you can see by the table above, Evans was an absolute rock at the heart of the defence, putting his body on the line to deal with Everton’s crosses from open play and set pieces and their attempts at goal from in and around the box.

United Stand presenter Beth Tucker described the Premier League winner’s performance as a “masterclass,” as the defender was also important in possession, a fact highlighted by his one key pass, 88% pass accuracy, 65 touches, and one successful dribble, according to Sofascore.

Overall, it was another fantastic showing from Evans, with his signing being one of the most valuable moments of the season for Ten Hag. On this showing, the central defender certainly deserves a more permanent role in the starting lineup.

In truth, without the Northern Irish centre-back, their Champions League dream would be all but over.

Namibia decimate Coetzer-less Scotland

Scotland looked deflated coming up against a rested Namibia unit, who stormed to their first win of the tournament by 24 runs

With captain Kyle Coetzer sitting out still feeling the effects of dehydration after a draining half-century in Monday’s win over Papua New Guinea, Scotland looked deflated coming up against a rested Namibia unit, who stormed to their first win of the tournament by 24 runs.Namibia’s top-order failed once again after opting to bat first at the toss, reduced to 46 for 3 in the seventh over. But captain Gerhard Erasmus helped steady the innings after entering at No. 5 to build a 49-run stand with Craig Williams. Erasmus was the aggressor, slogging two straight sixes in his 37 off 26 balls before he sliced a slog to short third man off Tom Sole’s offspin in the 14th.JJ Smit was sent in at No. 6 and provided a crucial finishing kick to the Namibia innings. The allrounder struck four straight sixes off Sole, Safyaan Sharif and Josh Davey in a blistering 43 off 22 balls before falling in the 19th over, a knock which earned him Man-of-the-Match honours before he fell off a full toss to deep midwicket. Nine more runs off the final over took Namibia to 159, making 99 off the last 10 overs to reach a total that was more than enough on a ground with an 80-meter boundary to the western side which has made quick scoring difficult all week.Craig Wallace came into the XI and opened in the absence of Coetzer but was knocked over second ball by Ben Shikongo who clipped the top of the stumps with a back of a length ball to beat Wallace’s slog. An even bigger blow was struck in the field nine balls later when George Munsey, Scotland’s most consistent batsman at this tournament, was run-out after taking on Niko Davin’s arm from the 80-meter boundary at deep backward square but wound up well short of the relay to Smit over the non-striker’s stumps coming back for a third run.Calum MacLeod and stand-in captain Richie Berrington did well to reconstruct the innings with a 48-run stand. Scotland were 64 for 2 at the 10-over mark, four runs ahead of where Namibia had been, but constant rotation of the bowling unit by Erasmus and disciplined lines built enough pressure for the Scotland innings to burst. Berrington fell to an excellent diving catch at deep midwicket by Jan Frylinck to end the stand, sparking the first of five consecutive men caught on the boundary as the required run rate climbed forcing Scotland to hit out in vain.MacLeod eventually fell to end the 15th, driving Frylinck to Christi Viljoen at long-off for a stodgy 39 off 46 balls. Scotland were reduced to 107 for 8 when Mark Watt was caught at short fine leg failing to get elevation scooping a full toss from Viljoen. But Sharif and Davey scored 28 off the last 15 balls to mitigate the net run rate damage Scotland took with the loss, something which could be crucial by the end of the group on the net run rate tie-breaker.

Spurs readying transfer offer for £26m talent who broke out under Mourinho

After signing Radu Dragusin to boost their centre-back options during the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have already reportedly turned their attention towards the summer transfer window and another defensive reinforcement for Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham transfer news

By the end of the winter window, Spurs had secured the signatures of Timo Werner on loan, Dragusin and young talent Lucas Bergvall, who will arrive in the summer. Those in North London will hope that Werner and Dragusin are enough to push the Lilywhites into the Premier League's top four in Postecoglou's first season in charge.

Currently fifth and two points adrift of surprise contenders Aston Villa, Spurs' January business could yet prove to make all the difference.

Postecoglou's progress will not stop with Champions League qualification this season, however, with Spurs' transfer rumours showing signs of intent this summer already. Reports have already linked the North London club with moves for Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo and Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in two deals that would only boost the current squad.

Tottenham in advanced talks to sign "incredible" versatile defender for Ange

The Lilywhites are already thinking about the summer…

By
Tom Cunningham

Feb 9, 2024

It certainly seems as though Daniel Levy trusts his new manager, having backed him in the summer with arrivals such as James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, before then backing him again in January and seemingly preparing to do the same again in a few months. And that could see a future star complete a move.

According to TuttoJuve, Spurs are ready to make an offer for Dean Huijsen from Juventus. The 18-year-old defender, who is currently on loan at AS Roma, has also attracted the interest of Manchester United after breaking into the team before former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was sacked.

The Red Devils and Spurs are reportedly prepared to bid €30m (£26m) to secure the teenager's signature this summer. Juventus, however, are unlikely to sanction a departure at this point. Rebuilding the Spurs backline with Dragusin and Van de Ven, Postecoglou could add the icing on the cake by welcoming a player for the future in Huijsen… if Levy can change their minds.

"Great" Huijsen is one for the future

A player who's already made his Juventus debut and enjoyed minutes on loan at Roma this season, Huijsen looks increasingly like a star in the making at just 18-years-old. It would be some coup if Spurs managed to secure his signature, with Postecoglou likely to deploy the Dutchman next to his countryman in Van de Ven to form what could finally be the centre-back partnership to one day end Spurs' wait for silverware.

Spurs repeat Van de Ven blinder with “incredibly fast” £31k-p/w titan

Huijsen is a player who's already earned plenty of deserved praise, including from Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, who told DAZN, via JuventusNews24, after the defender's debut: "Huijsen came in serene and calm in playing, he never played difficult balls and never put his teammate in difficulty. He read like a great player, he did something like Ciro Ferrara.

"Gatti was booked, I said maybe he escapes once (Leao ed) and then Huijsen came on very well. We had three 2005s, two 2003s, one 2000. Fortunately, I found the 2005 players again, thanks to the work that went into it in the youth sector. He worked with the tranquillity and serenity of a thirty-year-old."

Diomande ditched in predicted Rangers lineup vs Ross County

Glasgow Rangers are set to turn their attention back to Scottish Premiership action on Wednesday night as they prepare to host Ross County at Ibrox.

The Light Blues have won their last six matches in all competitions and are on the hunt for a seventh in succession as they face off against the Staggies on home soil.

Philippe Clement's team are three points off Celtic at the top of the table, with a game in hand, and a victory by three goals or more on Wednesday would see them leapfrog their rivals.

The Glasgow giants head into this match off the back of a 2-0 win over Ayr in the SFA Cup, to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the competition, and could make some changes to the starting XI from that match.

Here is FFC's predicted Rangers line-up to take on Ross County at Ibrox on Wednesday night, with four changes to the team that won in the cup…

1 Jack Butland

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland

In goal, former England international Jack Butland, who was signed on a free transfer from Premier League side Crystal Palace last summer, should keep his place.

The impressive 30-year-old shot-stopper has kept 15 clean sheets in 24 Premiership appearances for the club this season and will be hoping for number 16 against Ross County.

2 James Tavernier

Of course, the Rangers captain should start once again at right-back. He has racked up ten goals and five assists in 24 appearances as an ever-present in the Scottish top-flight so far this season.

3 Connor Goldson

Rangers defender Connor Goldson.

At the heart of the defence, Connor Goldson should start at centre-back as the English titan has been in dominant form in the league so far this season.

As you can see in the table above, the former Brighton & Hove Albion enforcer has dominated opposition attackers on the floor and in the air.

4 John Souttar

Rangers centre-back John Souttar.

John Souttar has been a solid operator when called upon by the Gers this season and could continue alongside Goldson to complete the centre-back pairing.

He has won 73% of his overall duels in the Premiership across 16 appearances, which shows that players find it difficult to get the better of him in physical contests.

Souttar and Goldson could be hard for Ross County's attackers to beat in the air and on the deck, and that could make them a solid partnership at the back.

5 Borna Barisic

Borna Barisic

The scorer of the opening goal against Ayr – Borna Barisic – could keep his place in the team ahead of Turkey international Ridvan Yilmaz at left-back.

He has provided three assists in 11 Premiership starts so far this season and may be hoping to add more goal contributions before the end of the season by bombing forward, as he did to great effect at the weekend.

6 John Lundstram

Rangers midfielder John Lundstram.

Returning to the team at the base of Clement's midfield, John Lundstrum could anchor the team ahead of Scotland international Ryan Jack.

The former Sheffield United ace, who was once described as the "cornerstone" of the team by Maurice Ross, is a reliable presence in the middle of the park, having completed 88% of his attempted passes this season.

7 Tom Lawrence

Glasgow Rangers forward Tom Lawrence.

Tom Lawrence was rested against Ayr and should now be brought back into the starting XI after an impressive display in the Premiership last time out.

The former Derby County star started in the middle of the park alongside Lundstram against Aberdeen and registered a Sofascore rating of 7.6, as his terrific effort from distance resulted in Todd Cantwell's winning goal.

He has created four 'big chances' and provided two assists in 11 league appearances for the Light Blues, but is still searching for his first goal.

8 Todd Cantwell

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell.

Another player who should be brought back into the starting XI is former Norwich City midfielder Cantwell, who made a big impact off the bench at the weekend.

He came on for Mohammed Diomande in the number ten position and created the second goal of the game – for Fabio Silva – with a fantastic run and deflected cross that fell kindly for the striker.

Diomande, who is still settling into life in Glasgow after his move in the last transfer window, could be ditched from the XI to bring Cantwell, who has scored three goals in his last four Premiership matches, back in.

The 25-year-old magician should line up ahead of Lawrence and Lundstram and look to provide a threat in the final third with his quality as a scorer and a creator of goals.

9 Ross McCausland

Rangers forward Ross McCausland.

On the right side of the attack, academy graduate Ross McCausland should return to the starting XI ahead of Scott Wright as the fourth and final change.

The former Aberdeen winger started against Ayr and failed to register a goal or an assist from the right flank. This means that he has only produced two goals and zero assists in 20 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues so far this season.

Meanwhile, McCausland has registered three assists in his last five appearances for Rangers in all competitions, and started on the right in the last league match against the Dons.

The Northern Irish youngster provides direct play and creativity, as shown by his recent form, and that is why Clement should unleash him ahead of the lacklustre Wright.

10 Fabio Silva

Fabio Silva

The centre-forward position should go to Fabio Silva after the Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee got himself on the scoresheet once again against Ayr.

He has scored in each of his last two starts for Rangers – against Livingston and Ayr – and should be provided with an opportunity to continue that streak against Ross County.
