Southampton fans react as Dusan Tadic is nominated for the Ballon d’Or award

Some Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react in the aftermath of Dusan Tadic’s nomination for the Ballon d’Or award.

The 65-cap Serbia international was nominated for the prestigious award after a stunning 2018/19 campaign with Ajax, in which he scored 38 goals and registered 24 assists as the Dutch side made it to the Champions League semi-finals – they were just seconds away from making the final in Madrid.

Along with the 30-year-old, two more former Southampton players in Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane found themselves nominated after winning Europe’s elite competition with Liverpool.

Tadic played for the Saints from 2014 to 2018 after arriving from FC Twente, scoring 24 goals while recording 35 assists in 162 appearances for the south coast side, before departing for Amsterdam in a £10m deal.

Let’s see what the Southampton fans on Twitter have been saying about their former No.10 after his nomination for the award…

Juventus: Fans react to Douglas Costa’s post calling for him to come back quickly

Juventus fans have been reacting to Douglas Costa’s post on Twitter and have told him the side misses his contributions while he sits on the sidelines through injury.

The Brazil international picked up a “medium-grade muscle injury to the semimembranosus muscle of the right thigh” (club’s official website) in their draw against Fiorentina in Serie A last month and has been unable to make an appearance since.

Valued at £34.2m by TransferMarkt, Costa has been unable to play a role in either of Juventus’ two Champions League matches so far and fans appear to have been suggesting that he is being missed immensely.

Indeed, it is not hard to suggest that the 29-year-old is an extremely important member of the Old Lady’s team as he has played a major role for them since joining them at the Allianz Stadium – he has made 75 appearances in which he has netted seven goals and provided 18 assists (Transfermarkt).

Whilst posting a photo of Gonzalo Higuain, Sami Khedira and Federico Bernardeschi on Twitter seemingly celebrating their 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, many of the club’s faithful decided to tell the South American how missed he is.

Here are just some of their reactions…

Man Utd fans in uproar over reportedly snubbing Joao Felix in the summer

Things just appear to be going from bad to worse for Manchester United at the moment. The club made just three permanent signings in the summer transfer window, bringing in Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire for a combined fee totalling well over £100m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side then failed to replace both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, and they have paid for it dearly already this season. The Red Devils have managed to score just nine times in their opening eight Premier League games, and have seen centre-forward Marcus Rashford find the back of the net on only three occasions.

It could have been so much different however. According to The Athletic, Portuguese sensation Joao Felix’s availability was discussed several times over the course of the summer window, after the 19-year-old burst onto the scene with 20 goals for Benfica last year. However, United reportedly had concerns over his ability to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League, and thus decided against a move.

After hearing the news they turned down the chance to make a swoop for the now Atletico Madrid star, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side revealed they couldn’t believe the club had arrived at such a conclusion over Felix’s talents, and insisted it is simply more evidence of their “clueless decision makers”.

Sheffield United wave goodbye to Ivy Lane ahead of FIFA 20 transformation

[ad_pod ]End of an era.Sheffield United have waved goodbye to their virtual ground Ivy Lane, which played host to the Blades on video game FIFA until their promotion to the Premier League this summer. Sadly, this means the computerised Ivy Lane faithful will take their somewhat fragile allegiances to the next promotion hopefuls in search of console-based glory. Plastics. It’s not the immense pot of television rights money handed to recently promoted sides that excites them anymore, nor the glory of playing in one of the most popular competitions in the world. Rather, it’s the added bonus of having your beloved football stadium constructed in complete detail by FIFA 20 publishers EA Sports.Watch Sheffield United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The latest ground to have enjoyed its FIFA makeover is Bramall lane. Fans can now score with Billy Sharp and friends and pinpoint the very seat they occupy every other week from the comfort of their own home; there’s no need to go to a game ever again! Sometimes it’s the small things in life, hey.

Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, this transformation does mean the bond with Ivy Lane has been severed. The club’s official Twitter paid homage to its former home in the only way possible, via a tweet…

It’s safe to say, you won’t find architecture like that anywhere else in the world. No, seriously, it’s made up.

QPR fans hail Toni Leistner after beating Millwall

[ad_pod ]

Queens Park Rangers maintained their tremendous form on Saturday afternoon as they beat Millwall 2-1 at the Den.

Two strikes from Nahki Wells was the difference between the teams as the former Huddersfield man looked assured in front of the ‘keeper.

His goals meant that QPR are now four games without defeat in the Championship.

However, the Bermudan wasn’t the one to get the brunt of the praise as defender Toni Leistner was hailed by various supporters on Twitter.

A host of superlatives were thrown in the 29-year-old’s direction as he was branded a warrior. Someone also claimed he was awesome.

The centre-back was described as a born leader as a further fan deemed him to be the man of the match.

The German was starting just his third game this season but in that time he’s won a colossal 4.4 aerial duels per outing.

Against Millwall Leistner won a monumental 11 duels in the air as well as making seven clearances.

It appears as though he is in top form at the moment, having claimed an assist last week too.

Liverpool checking on Blackburn’s John Buckley

Liverpool appear to be keeping tabs on one of England’s emerging attacking midfield starlets.

According to a report by TeamTALK, Blackburn Rovers’ John Buckley appears to have caught the attention of the Premier League giants.

However, the Anfield outfit are not believed to be the only club to have taken an interest in the Ewood Park prospect recently, with the likes of Everton and Manchester United also checking in on him.

The 19-year-old is highly-regarded at the Championship outfit and the news of rumoured interest has promoted Blackburn to hold talks with the youngster about a new deal.

Yet to make his first-team debut under Tony Mowbray, Buckley is believed to be on the fringes of the senior squad following his impressive performances for the Developmental side, where he has one goal and one assist in his 15 matches.

The Verdict:

Liverpool already have a number of quality young players on their books at the younger levels and Buckley could fit in with them at Melwood.

The 19-year-old has shown plenty of promise for Blackburn over the years, having been at Ewood Park since he was just six-years-old, and is highly regarded as a player for the future at the club.

Whether anything happens in the near future regarding the truth surrounding the interest in Buckley remains to be seen, however, if he continues to impress, a move to a big club like Liverpool could certainly be on the cards in the future.

West Brom fans are furious with Leeds ticket prices

[ad_pod ]

West Brom might not be playing Leeds United for another three weeks, but that hasn’t stopped several fans at the Hawthorns from venting their anger on social media.

The club have announced that the game will carry ‘category one’ status meaning that the Baggies travelling cast will be charged £39 to get into Elland Road on October 1st.

There are two other away fixtures before then too, both at London-based sides – first, they face Fulham at Craven Cottage this weekend before making the trip to Queens Park Rangers just a few days before facing Leeds.

At £39 it has understandably left many of Albion’s fanbase enraged with such a decision.

One supporter said they expected nothing less from their Championship rivals with another claiming there was no need for that price.

The two teams were early season picks for a title challenge, so it is no surprise to see them both currently occupy a spot in the top four, which may have had a factor in the price.

Several words were used to describe the move including ‘outrageous,’ ‘disgusting’ and ‘laughable,’ so it is clear to see that a lot of the Baggies’ support are furious.

Everton eye Tottenham ace Ndombele

Some Everton fans have been left buzzing over transfer news involving Tanguy Ndombele.

Speaking live on Tuesday’s episode of Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show (via The Transfer Centre – Tue 17:24pm), journalist Kaveh Solhekol revealed that the Goodison Park outfit are now among a number of clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old on loan for the rest of the season, although he is more likely to return to France, with Paris Saint-Germain in the frame.

Of course, Ndombele has largely been a disappointment since arriving at Tottenham, having only scored six goals and supplied five assists in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

However, there is talent there, enough for Spurs to have made him their all-time record signing in 2019, and he could add a shrewd option to Everton’s midfield.

He currently commits fewer fouls per league game than Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan and Andre Gomes, and also averages more dribbles, accurate passes and through balls per match than the Everton trio (WhoScored), suggesting that he would slot right in to the middle of the park.

Also, the deal would only be a loan, so if it does not work out, the Toffees can just send him straight back to north London without being locked into a huge financial commitment.

Kalvin Phillips joining Man Utd ruled out

It is ‘inconceivable’ that Kalvin Phillips will trade Leeds United for Manchester United at any point in the future, according to journalist David Anderson.

The Lowdown: Phillips linked with United move

Phillips has become arguably Leeds’ most important player during the Marcelo Bielsa era, maturing into a formidable presence for both club and country.

England’s reigning Player of the Year’s stock has never been higher and it could be that the Whites have to battle off interest in him during the summer transfer window.

Phillips has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, which given the rivalry between the two clubs, could cause huge controversy.

The Latest: Journalist laughs off idea

Writing for the Mirror, however, Anderson has claimed that the 26-year-old will simply not entertain the idea of heading to Old Trafford, such are his Leeds ties.

While a move elsewhere isn’t ruled out, it is stated that Phillips ‘could never bring himself to play for the Reds’.

The Verdict: Big boost for Leeds

This sums up the level of loyalty Phillips has with his boyhood club and it is undoubtedly good news that he won’t be moving to Manchester, which would be a tough transfer to stomach for Whites fans.

Not only that but it could also affect the midfielder’s great legacy at Elland Road – he has been hailed as ‘amazing’ by Jose Mourinho – as was the case when Alan Smith signed for the Red Devils back in 2004.

While it would be hard to begrudge Phillps a move to a Champions League outfit eventually, the report states that he is ‘happy’ for the time being and him staying put for years to come would be an almighty boost for everyone associated with the club.

LFC fans delighted at investigation update

A number of Liverpool supporters have reacted in delighted fashion to a claim that the Reds won’t be investigated for possible false negative virus tests.

The Reds have suffered a difficult period in their season, like so many clubs, with numerous players having to isolate after testing positive for the virus.

The likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho have all been ruled out at different times recently and Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge has been affected as a result, with just two points taken from the last nine on offer.

The Reds also saw their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal cancelled last week, with the Emirates Stadium fixture instead moved to 20 January.

On Monday, a story from The Athletic emerged claiming that the Reds could be investigated for reported false positives, in what was a worrying development for the club.

However, according to The Evening Standard [via Anfield Watch], that will not happen, with the EFL not planning to dig deeper into the issue.
