Wolves hunt down 441-run target

A round-up of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Silver League matches that ended on November 15, 2015

ESPNcricinfo staff15-Nov-2014Group ISeamer Ali Imran’s second first-class ten-wicket haul was the leading performance in Pakistan International Airlines’ four-wicket win against Khan Research Laboratories. After PIA opted to bowl, Ali Imran ran through KRL’s top order, picking up the first six wickets, to end up with figures of 6 for 45 as KRL were bowled out for 107 in 39.4 overs.PIA’s response was shaky but a half-century by No.9 Tahir Khan lifted them to 241 and earned them a 134-run lead. Although KRL produced a much better performance – 337 runs – in their second innings, they were still pegged back by Ali Imran, who went on to pick four wickets to complete a ten-for.Chasing 204, PIA’s innings wobbled as they lost their openers with only 17 on the board and were later reduced to 126 for 6, but Sheharyar Ghani and Tahir partnered in a crucial and unbeaten 78-run stand for the seventh wicket to take their team over the line. It was PIA’s fifth win in five matches and kept them at the top of the table.Hyderabad Hawks’ Aslam Sattar tripped up Quetta Bears’ batsmen with 6 for 44 as they fell short of the target of 177 runs to lose by 21 runs. Bears’ Shahbaz Khan scored the only half-century – 61 – of the match during a tight chase but he received no support from the other end. Only two other batsmen registered double-digit scores as Hawks’ bowlers kept a lid on scoring while Sattar picked up the wickets. It was a low-scoring match from the outset. Hawks were put in to bat but could only muster 196 runs. Bears innings suffered a similar fate as none of their batsmen were able to build on the starts to be bowled out for 180. Bears’ Nazar Hussain picked up a career-best 9 for 60 in the second innings to dismiss Hawks for 160, but Bears’ batsmen followed the same course.Group IIAbbottabad Falcons fought back from a 146-run first-innings deficit and a poor start to their second innings to ensure a draw against Bahawalpur Stags, but it was the Stags who went away with three points from the game to Falcons’ zero. Falcons had been reduced to 36 for 3 and faced an innings defeat but tenacious half-centuries from Waqar Orakzai, who scored 86 during a five-hour stay, and Mohammad Ali. Both batsmen were dismissed by Imranullah Aslam, who went on to collect five wickets, but by then they had taken the team to safety.Stags had put up a strong performance in their first innings, scoring 529 in response to Falcons’ 383. Three of their top four – Imranullah, Faisal Mubashir and Bilal Khilji – smashed centuries while the fourth, Adeel Basit, added 81 which meant that even a late collapse – they lost their last six wickets for 41 – did not stop them from crossing 500. The strong batting performance overhauled a solid one from Falcons, whose innings was led by a century from Orakzai and fifties by Khalilullah and Nasir Khan, but they all were among Ahmed Raza’s seven victims in the first innings.Tabish Khan and Mohammad Waqas played starring roles as Sui Southern Gas Corporations inflicted on Habib Bank a narrow 26-run defeat, their first, in Islamabad. Waqas single-handedly shored up Sui Gas’ second innings with a 237-ball 140 that helped them post a 329-run target for Habib Bank. The second-highest score in the innings was 39. Waqas’ innings turned out to be crucial as Habib Bank closed in towards the target, with half-centuries from Imran Farhat and Kamran Hussain, but lost their last three wickets on the same score.Habib Bank, unbeaten before this match, opted to field and restricted Sui Gas to 152, with Fahad Masood and Sarmad Anwar picking up four wickets apiece but their batting suffered a collapse against Tabish to be bowled out for 112. Tabish’s 7 for 39 was his 23rd first-class five-for and it helped Sui Gas to an important 40-run lead which proved to be crucial in the end.Opening batsman Imran Ali’s unbeaten 182 helped Faisalabad Wolves hunt down a stiff 441-run target in 106.5 overs to hand Sialkot Stallions their third loss in the tournament this year. What would have made it sweeter for Imran was that it was his maiden first-class century and it helped pull off a win after giving away a lead.Wolves had been ordinary with the bat in their first innings. They had been bowled out for 154 in response to Stallions’ 210. None of their batsmen crossed 25. That first innings deficit of 56 grew to 440 after Stallions’ strong batting performance, led by Bilal Hussain’s 157, in the second. Stallions had been 62 for 4, but Bilal received good support from the lower middle order as they eyed their first win. But Wolves were even stronger. Imran Ali’s century was beefed up with fifties from Waqas Wasif and Raheel Ameer. Faheem Ashraf then joined to score a quick 41 to lead Wolves to their win.

É campeão! Fla volta a bater o Timão e leva o primeiro Brasileiro Sub-17

No segundo tempo, o cenário mudou.

Sarfraz ton, Taylor fifty set up final day

Taylor leads NZ fight on day four

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsPakistan were nine down and 91 runs behind but Sarfraz Ahmed made his third Test century in the company of last man Rahat Ali to frustrate New Zealand and nearly wipe out the deficit in an extended first session. The two Pakistan spinners then struck thrice each but Ross Taylor cut his way to an unbeaten 77 to give his side an overall lead of 177 going into the final day.New Zealand were not able to break through the last pair despite the extra half hour added to the morning session as Sarfraz and Rahat Ali added 81 in 28 overs. Sarfraz finally fell in the second over after the interval on 112, hitting a return catch to give Brendon McCullum his first wicket in 89 Tests.Sarfraz Ahmed made his third Test century•Getty Images

Sarfraz’s effort not only prevented New Zealand from taking a big first-innings lead, but also took plenty of time out of the game. He went past Kamran Akmal for the most Test runs scored by a Pakistan wicketkeeper in a calendar year, and also became the first keeper from his country to make three Test centuries in a calendar year.Pakistan began on 281 for 6 and lost three wickets in the first ten overs to Tim Southee and Trent Boult. Sarfraz took singles off the first balls of a few overs only to see Yasir Shah and Ehsan Adil succumb to Southee’s tight lines.Sarfraz became wiser and shielded Zulfiqar Babar from most of the strike, but the left-arm spinner insisted on backing away and heaving at the fast bowlers. Sarfaz gave him one ball to negotiate in the 119th over, but Babar promptly nicked Boult behind.Southee and Boult rarely bowled a loose ball and 38 runs came in 13 overs in the first hour. Sarfraz had realised farming the strike alone won’t do, and he whipped and cut Boult for fours.Ish Sodhi and James Neesham came on after drinks, and Rahat dug in. Sarfraz would take a single off the fourth ball mostly and then Rahat would move across, cover the stumps, and defend from the crease.Sarfraz launched a flurry of boundaries against the offspinner Mark Craig and Sodhi. The field was spread out but Sarfraz found the gaps consistently. He lofted straight and over extra cover, and swept in front of and behind square. He took 25 off two overs from the spinners, moved to 96, and also brought up the fifty of the partnership.New Zealand turned to Southee and Boult again, but Sarfraz was in complete command. He cut Southee for four to reach his century, and drove Boult for four more.Rahat played his role superbly, playing out a maiden to Southee and wearing a blow on his arm. He also edged Craig between the keeper and slip, but as lunch neared, he developed enough confidence to launch Sodhi to the straight boundary twice. Rahat stayed undefeated on 16, having lasted 49 deliveries.McCullum came out to bat eager to make up for lost time and cracked six fours in his 45, but New Zealand lost their best batsman of the series, Tom Latham, to a debatable decision. Latham was given caught by a diving Asad Shafiq at leg gully as he attempted to sweep Yasir on 9. He reviewed immediately, and there did not appear to be any visible contact with glove before the ball brushed his forearm. But without HotSpot or Snicko, there was no conclusive evidence for the third umpire to overturn the on-field decision. New Zealand slowed down as the spinners started to produce the edges, but there were no real chances going into tea. They came in a rush during the final session though, as New Zealand lost 3 for 16 in the space of 17 balls. Kane Williamson had come out pretty positive after tea, and ended up driving Babar uppishly to short extra cover. McCullum went in Babar’s next over, Pakistan reviewing successfully for leg-before. Corey Anderson lasted four balls as Yasir spun a big legbreak out of the rough, through the gate, and onto the stumps.New Zealand had gone from 63 for 1 to 79 for 4, but Taylor was backing his instinct to cut, and had got going with boundaries through point off his first two balls. Taylor kept making room and cutting from the line of the stumps, scoring at a strike-rate in the eighties.Neesham hung around for a while, but Babar spun in another ripper out of the rough to bowl him. Play was called off with ten deliveries to go, but two balls before, Yasir made one kick at BJ Watling, who fended the nearly unplayable delivery to second slip. It was a reminder of how tricky the chase could be for Pakistan on day five.

– Sempre muita responsabilidade jogar no gol do Palmeiras.

Feisty Bangladesh make it 4-0

Bangladesh were kept under pressure by Zimbabwe for short periods in both innings, but the hosts were always only a partnership or a wicket away from taking command, and duly went up 4-0 in the five-match series with the 21-run win in Mirpur

The Report by Mohammad Isam in Mirpur28-Nov-2014
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details1:22

Isam: Not enough effort from Zimbabwe

Bangladesh were kept under pressure by Zimbabwe for short periods in both innings, but the hosts were always only a partnership or a wicket away from taking command, and duly went up 4-0 in the five-match series with the 21-run win in Mirpur. Zimbabwe did however record their best bowling figures, highest opening partnership, first 100-plus partnership, and first 200-plus score. But none of these could produce their first win on tour. They restricted Bangladesh to 256 for 8 in 50 overs, but could only muster 235 for 8 in reply.Brendan Taylor top-scored with 63 but it was Solomon Mire who impressed with his second ODI fifty, which featured a number of ferocious hits. He was dropped on 32 by Abul Hasan at deep fine-leg, and made good use of it. He and Taylor added 106 runs for the fourth wicket and were threatening to have a tilt at the 257-run target. But once the pair got out in successive overs, with Zimbabwe still needing 85, the visitors never really got back on track.Taylor struck seven fours, while Mire smashed four fours and two sixes each over long-on and midwicket, with the second one bringing up his fifty. Mire, however, was also the first to fall in the partnership, giving cover a simple catch as he drove without moving his feet against Jubair Hossain. Taylor got out trying his brand of the trampoline shot with Zimbabwe entering the second Powerplay.Elton Chigumbura could not provide the required fireworks, adding just 11 runs in 4.3 overs following the fifth wicket. Peter Moor and Regis Chakabva looked like the wrong batsmen at the slog overs, as the required run-rate soared out of their grasp.Bangladesh had earlier based their innings on two partnerships which counter-balanced two batting collapses. Mahmudullah was the common factor in both stands, adding 134 for the fifth wicket with Mushfiqur Rahim, and 65 for the eighth with Mashrafe Mortaza.Mahmudullah made 82, his highest ODI score and his first half-century in 18 months. He struck six fours in his 112-ball knock, an innings of supporting nature that had its share of attractive strokes. He made sure Mushfiqur and Mashrafe were fed the strike and remained on the attack. The pitch also offered a bit of movement and slow bounce, which made it difficult to keep shots under control. The seamers Neville Madziva and Mire took three wickets each, and though they took a bit of a hammering towards the end, kept the Bangladesh batsmen on their toes. Legspinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi was disciplined in his 10 overs, taking two crucial wickets.Bangladesh did not enjoy as good a start with the bat as they did in the second and third ODIs. The opening partnership lasted just four overs when Anamul Haque missed a straight ball that would have hit middle-stump had it not hit his back leg. Having struck his second boundary in the tenth over by backing away and steering the ball through the off side, Tamim Iqbal tried the same shot in the next over and picked out sweeper cover. Hamilton Masakadza did not have to move and Mire had picked up his first international wicket.Four balls later, Brendan Taylor snapped up a one-handed catch as Imrul tried to hit one over his head at midwicket. In the very next over, Shakib scooped a Mire slower ball to mid-off. It was fun times for Zimbabwe as the haze took over Mirpur. But from 32 for 4, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah wrested back the initiative. Mushfiqur drove business-like through the covers, clipped through square-leg and brought out the square drive against the offspinner Vusi Sibanda. He was severe on the short ball and lofted over cover with aplomb. He hit one four, with his favoured slog sweep, but it was this shot that also brought his end in the 38th over.Mushfiqur made a 78-ball 77, with seven fours, but it felt like an innings cut short in its prime due to the batsman’s impatience. Two more wickets fell soon after. Sabbir Rahman’s sweep found the deep square-leg fielder off Kamungozi, while Abul Hasan spooned one to mid-off to give Mire his third wicket. Mahmudullah, however, remained steady and joined with Mashrafe to take charge of the last ten overs, as they made sure Bangladesh neared the 250-mark.When Zimbabwe replied, Shakib Al Hasan provided Bangladesh with the first two wickets by getting rid of Masakadza and Sibanda. The latter was the first to fall, trapped leg-before as he pressed forward and was struck in front. Masakadza was beautifully opened up with Shakib’s arm-ball and soon after, Jubair got his first ODI wicket off his fifth ball, beating Timycen Maruma with a googly as Zimbabwe slipped to 60 for 3 by the 17th over.Shakib was excellent till the tenth over, taking 2 for 28, while Rubel Hossain and Jubair also picked up two scalps apiece. Jubair was slightly expensive, but as only the second specialist legspinner to play an ODI for Bangladesh, he did a decent job.Ultimately, Zimbabwe’s batting recovery, from 60 for 3, was not as effective as Bangladesh’s fifth or eighth-wicket stands, and now the visitors find themselves just one loss away from a double whitewash.

No fim, levou a mão à coxa esquerda algumas vezes.

On Saturday, Wellington registered their first win in five games in this season’s Ford Trophy. Today, they registered yet another loss, at the hands of table-toppers Auckland. Auckland’s seamers put in a solid showing in helpful conditions to restrict Wellington to 208 for 7, before Colin Munro struck a rapid, unbeaten 65 to carry them home with more than 10 overs to spare.Wellington chose to bat, and all of their batsmen got starts – only No. 7 Luke Woodcock did not get into double digits – but failed to make it count on an overcast day. Only Alecz Day – who made an unbeaten 61 off 76 balls – managed to get to a fifty, and only one other batsman got past 25: opener Michael Pollard. Michael Bates led Auckland’s attack with figures of 3 for 20 in his 10.Auckland received a big blow in the chase when Rob Nicol retired hurt on 22 off 23 balls, having hit the ball onto his foot, but a partnership of 90 between Munro and Craig Cachopa at over a run a ball ensured they were always on track. Nicol was taken to hospital for x-rays, and played no further part in the game. Auckland didn’t miss him too much, though, getting to their target in 39.1 overs with four wickets to spare.
