Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have ‘a future captain’ on their hands in the form of centre-back Cristian Romero, according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson.

The Lowdown: Romero off to a great start at Spurs

The 24-year-old first joined the Premier League giants from Atalanta last summer and has since gone on to make 29 appearances for the Lilywhites, most recently in Spurs’ 3-1 victory against Leicester City last weekend.

The Argentine has delivered some impressive performances of late in the top flight, and the former Spurs goalkeeper believes that Romero would make a perfect candidate to replace Hugo Lloris as club captain when the veteran Frenchman departs.

The Latest: Romero could be future Spurs captain

When asked if he thought the defender had the potential to be a future skipper in the capital, Robinson told Football Insider:

“Romero looks like he has a lot of leadership which is great to see at such a young age. His performances on the pitch and relationship with his teammates show that. I don’t know to what extent language is a barrier but he looks a future captain to me.

“They will not take the captaincy off of Hugo, there is no call for that but whenever he choses to leave there will be a decision to make.

“If Romero is still at the club I can see him stepping up. I’m not talking about anytime in the immediate future but perhaps in a few years time.”

The Verdict: Beast at the back

The £29k-per-week Argentine has been an absolute rock at the heart of the Spurs defence since slotting into the starting XI, averaging three clearances, 2.9 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per league game this season, via WhoScored.

Romero has been hailed as “outstanding” by BBC columnist Jonathan Woodgate and still has plenty of his prime years ahead of him, quite possibly growing into an even better player in the years to come.

Antonio Conte will need all of his defensive experience available to him should he want Tottenham to secure a top-four finish at the end of the season, and the 6 foot 1 colossus could help him do just that with only four games left to go.

In terms of leading by example, Romero is doing that with his performances, so perhaps Robinson is right in name-checking him as Lloris’ possible successor for the armband at Spurs.

وتابع: “لا يوجد تفسير للاحتفال سوى السعادة بالهدف، والسعادة للفريق، والسعادة للأداء، لم يكن هناك أي ازدراء للخصم ولا تجاه مدرب كوريا الجنوبية، الذي أكن له الكثير من الاحترام”. 

وأضاف تيتي: “نحاول التكيف مع خصائص اللاعبين، إنهم صغار جدًا وأحاول التكيف قليلاً مع لغتهم، وجزء من لغتهم هو الرقص”.

In two of the most pressurised situations of the series to date – during England’s first-innings collapses at Brisbane and Perth – Ian Bell belied his reputation for soft runs with two of the most composed half-centuries of his career. In both cases he might well have reached a century had it not been for the wickets tumbling at the other end.The clamour since Australia squared the series at Perth has been for Bell to move back up the order from his berth at No. 6. With scores of 76, 68 not out and 53 in his first three innings of the series, he showcased not only an appetite for runs that has always been a feature of his game, but a new hardened approach to the mental aspect of cricket. Since being exposed by Shane Warne as a rookie in the 2005 series, Bell has improved his average in each of his four campaigns against Australia, and has now made 11 fifties in 16 appearances. The elusive breakthrough hundred seems only a matter of time.”I’m desperate for an Ashes hundred, but I’m hoping the way I’m playing, there’s one round the corner,” said Bell. “I’m really happy with the way I’m playing out here. It’s the usual thing to be training two days before a Test, so the guys will be refreshed and ready to go. It’s a great event, and everyone’s excited about being here.”Despite the loss at Perth and the concerns that come with such a setback at such a crucial time of the series, Bell believes that England are still very much in command of their own destiny. “Australia have got some momentum going in, no doubt,” he said, “but out of the three Test matches, I’d say we’ve been playing the better cricket. We’re going to have to come out and play well, and take a bit of the momentum back again.”

ويلتقي منتخب فرنسا مع إنجلترا يوم السبت المقبل في ربع نهائي كأس العالم قطر 2022، وجاء حديث فوفانا في تصريحات لصحيفة “ليكيب” الفرنسية.

وعن شعوره حيال المجموعة قبل يومين من ربع النهائي ضد إنجلترا يوم السبت، قال فوفانا: “أشعر بذلك منذ بداية المسابقة، محددين مع اقتراب المباريات، دائمًا على استعداد للتحضير للمباراة واللعب”.

وبشأن التنافس التاريخي بين فرنسا وإنجلترا، أفاد: “إنه تنافس جغرافي يشبه إلى حد ما جيراننا، إنه فريق رائع، لديهم شخصيات رائعة، نراهم يتقدمون باستمرار، ستكون مباراة جيدة”.

وعن حكمه على الحالة الذهنية لـ مبابي، أوضح فوفانا: “كيليان شخص لا يشاهد الصحافة، آسف لك (يضحك)، إنه يركز على لعبته، وما يجب عليه فعله، وما يجب على الفريق القيام به، أشعر بأنه يتمتع هدوء شديد وعزم شديد”.

وتحدث فوفانا عن الأجواء السائدة بين لاعبي فرنسا، متابعًا: “نعم هناك بعض الموسيقى، توجد غرفة التنشيط حيث نلتقي قبل 30-40 دقيقة من الخروج على العشب”.

وأضاف: “الكثير لم يعتقدوا أننا لدينا القدرة على الوصول إلى نهائي كأس العالم، سنبذل قصارى جهدنا للفوز، نعرف جيدًا ما يعنيه ميسي في تاريخ هذه الرياضية، لكنها مباراة بين الأرجنتين وفرنسا”.

وعن الحفاظ على لقب كأس العالم: “ما حققناه في الماضي، يظل في الماضي، رغم فخري بهذا اللقب، نريد أن نستمتع بكتابة التاريخ، علينا أن نكون مستعدين للمعاناة، رغم فيروس الإبل وانتشاره، يجب أن ننهي المهمة بأفضل شكل ممكن، علينا أن نكون في حالة ذهنية رائعة”.

India won the toss and chose to bat but looked in trouble early on at 32 for 3 in the 11th over as their batsmen were kept in check by some tight bowling and fielding from West Indies.Mithali Raj, who made a century in the last game, could only manage 22, while Priyanka Roy got a start, reaching 33, before she was dismissed. At 88 for 6 in the 30th over, India looked in danger of folding up cheaply. However Rumeli Dhar and Amita Sharma added a crucial 40 runs for the seventh wicket to steady the innings. Sharma, who was unbeaten on 47, also added some handy runs with No. 9 Jhulan Goswami as India reached 188 for 9 off their 50 overs.West Indies’ chase started poorly as they lost Stafanie Taylor in the third over with just two runs on the board. Shanel Daley and Deandra Dottin added 43 runs for the 5th wicket to take West Indies past 100 and it looked like they were on track for victory. However Dottin was run out with the score on 103 and her dismissal triggered a collapse. West Indies lost five wickets for 28 runs as they slumped to 131 all out in just under 46 overs. Roy backed up her batting performance with figures of 3 for 26 with her legspin.The two sides now play a three-match Twenty20 series that begins in Ahmedabad on January 22.
