An international break usually has a tendency to be a pillar of frustration, especially when your country plays a pretty meaningless friendly.

Players will come back injured and, in the case of Wolves, the last few weeks haven’t been particularly kind to them on the injury front.

They’ve lost Jonny to yet another ACL problem and, during the break, they also lost Joao Moutinho for a period of time. The midfielder picked up a groin problem during Portugal’s 1-0 win over Azerbaijan and didn’t make it back out for the second half of that encounter.

That caused him to miss Wolves’ clash with West Ham on his return to England, despite Nuno Espirito Santo claiming that the issue was getting better.

Speaking in the build-up to that game, the manager commented: “It was an injury that didn’t allow him to play with Portugal. It’s still being assessed, let’s wait. It was at the beginning of the first game, he only made 45 minutes and was not able to continue for the second-half. Since then, he’s not been training as normal, he didn’t join the group yet, but he’s improving.”

Unfortunately for Wolves, Moutinho has not improved sufficiently over the last week or so. As a result, he is set to miss their match against Fulham on Friday night.

The news was confirmed by Ben Dinnery on Twitter, who said: “No changes on the injury front which means Joao Moutinho (groin) remains sidelined. Willy Boly (COVID-19) will rejoin the group from next week while Jonny faces a 9-12 month recovery after suffering a recurrence of an ACL rupture.”

To lose a player to injury during club action is frustrating but for Moutinho to pick up this problem while on international duty is even worse.

Leander Dendoncker was his replacement last time out and he actually scored a rare goal, but a player of the 34-year-old’s calibre would be a huge absentee for anyone. The midfield general is one of Nuno’s chief quarterbacks and, after a rather disappointing start to the campaign, he has improved in the last few months.

Moutinho scored a screamer against Arsenal and then picked up an assist against Manchester City. He has put in some all-action displays of late, winning nine tackles and playing eight key passes in his last five matches.

That was compared to just six tackles and six key passes in the five outings prior to that. The experienced midfielder has seemingly been ruled out just as his season was improving, and his continued absence will be a huge source of frustration for everybody at Wolves.

A very worrying behind-the-scenes claim has emerged on Harry Kane and his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

As per Football Insider, there has been some ‘encouragement’ behind-the-scenes at Manchester United as the Spurs star is ‘said to be interested’ in a potential move to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

A source from the Old Trafford faithful has claimed that the Red Devils are currently ‘keeping tabs’ on his situation at the North London club and would be ‘very keen’ in signing him.

The source added that MUFC ‘have always wanted’ the England international captain and that ‘nothing has changed in that regard’.

He is thought of by the club to be their ‘perfect spearhead’ to take them back to the top of the table in the Premier League, and Daniel Levy and the Lilywhites board ‘could be pushed into a corner’ if Kane were to go public with his ‘desire’ to leave them.

The 27-year-old has three years left on his current deal at THFC and United are one of a few clubs who can afford his £125m+ valuation.

The report adds that Kane is ‘100 per cent thinking of moving on’ as he has been left ‘unimpressed’ with the ambition shown by his club’s hierarchy.

Tottenham must keep Kane

Jose Mourinho’s side must try and keep Kane at all costs, as he is of course such an important player to the club. It is not only that though – selling him to a rival for the top four in the Premier League would be downright ludicrous, especially considering the Lilywhites do not exactly have the best record of reinvesting smartly when selling star players, as we saw when Gareth Bale left.

Yet another great season has seen the striker score no fewer than 29 times and make a further 16 assists in 42 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt), and if Tottenham have any ambition of getting back in the UEFA Champions League, Kane would be nothing short of vital in doing so.

O Flamengo voltará a jogar no Maracanã neste domingo, contra o Corinthians, pela 32ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro. Réver também comentou sobre o pedido de anulação do clássico contra o Fluminense, assunto que vem dominando está semana. O zagueiro conta que não está pensando no assunto, deixa na mão da diretoria e pede que a equipe mantenha o foco só no Corinthians.

– Eu sinceramente não penso muito nisso, até porque eu pensar ou não pensar não vai mudar mudar muita coisa. Rangers could be set to receive a huge blow this summer as Leeds United have reportedly shortlisted Steven Gerrard as a potential replacement for Marcelo Bielsa should the Argentinian depart Elland Road in the coming months.

Speaking on Ask Ornstein, The Athletic’s Phil Hay name-checked Gerrard when discussing the Yorkshire club’s potential successors for Bielsa this summer, as despite an impressive campaign back in the Premier League, the legendary manager’s contract is currently set to expire at the end of the season.

The Whites are currently on track for a top 10 finish in the Premier League, having emphatically won the Championship title last season, so many Leeds fans would undoubtedly be disappointed if Bielsa were to leave.

However, given Gerrard’s impressive record at Rangers, he could prove to be an excellent replacement for the 65-year-old at Elland Road, and a return to the Premier League might just tempt the former Liverpool captain away from Ibrox.

Since being appointed in May 2018, Gerrard has helped transform the Gers, sealing their 55th league title earlier in the season after a superb campaign which has seen them remain unbeaten in the top flight with just four league games remaining.

The Light Blues also impressed in the Europa League, reaching the round of 16 before falling to a 2-0 defeat at home to Slavia Prague, and his European experience would likely make him an attractive candidate for a lot of clubs in the future.

Whilst you would hope that the prospect of managing Rangers in the Champions League next season would be enough to convince Gerrard to stay, the more success he enjoys at Ibrox, the more foreign clubs are going to take notice.

Earlier in the season, former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp was full of praise for Gerrard, saying: “A lot of people down here have been paying attention to the job Stevie has done because he’s done amazing.”

Therefore, it would be a huge blow for Rangers chairman Douglas Park if Leeds were able to tempt Gerrard with an offer this summer, as it is difficult to see a new manager coming in and replicating the 40-year-old’s successes at Ibrox.

Liverpool will be able to call upon Diogo Jota this weekend despite initial fears that he may have been injured.

The Portuguese international reportedly missed training on Thursday, sparking worries that he could have been ruled out for the Reds’ Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

However, Jurgen Klopp allayed any fears over the 24-year-old’s fitness, stating that he was “fine” in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Jota’s inclusion in the Liverpool squad will certainly be a huge boost for the Reds as they aim to close the gap on the top four in the final few games of the Premier League campaign.

Despite having suffered a three-month injury absence since his arrival from Molineux, the 24-year-old remains one of the most productive players at Anfield.

The Portuguese, who earns just over £90,000 per week with Liverpool, has hit 12 goals in all competitions so far in a red shirt.

For comparison, only Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have found the net with more regularity than Jota – a remarkable feat considering that he has only started 16 matches all season out of a possible 45.

It will be a huge relief for Klopp to be able to call on Jota and his goalscoring talents for today’s clash against Newcastle. The German has never attempted to hide his admiration for the Portuguese, labelling his performances as “class”.
