Mateus Pet caiu nas graças do técnico Jorginho ainda no fim da temporada passada, quando o clube vivia um momento complicado no Campeonato Brasileiro. O meia teve a chance de entrar em campo por alguns minutos no último jogo da temporada, contra o Coritiba. Titular nos primeiros treinos do ano, o jogador de 17 anos concedeu entrevista coletiva pela primeira vez e se apresentou ao torcedor vascaíno.

– Já venho trabalhando forte desde o ano passado para ganhar essa oportunidade. Estou muito feliz por essa confiança que o Jorginho tem me passado. Minhas características mudaram um pouco em relação a base. Lá eu jogava mais adiantado, aqui eu atuo um pouco mais recuado, com obrigação de marcar mais – explica Mateus, que ainda não pode dirigir e nem entrar nas noitadas cariocas:

– Ainda não comecei o processo para tirar carteira de motorista. A parte da noitada é o de menos, eu não curto muito. Sou um cara mais caseiro e minha religião também não permite.

O jovem é uma das principais promessas das categorias de base do Vasco. Mateus é da geração 98, que ganhou muitos títulos na base e é vista com bons olhos pela diretoria e comissão técnica. Além dele, outros três jogadores nascidos no ano em que o clube conquistou a Libertadores da América também estão no elenco profissional na pré-temporada em Pinheiral. E o jovem rasga elogios aos amigos:

– Sobre os meninos que estão subindo, eu vou falar mais da minha geração, que é a 98. Eu, Andrey, Evander e Alan estamos muito focados. Na base foram muitos títulos. Sempre buscamos isso. Somos muito unidos. Respeitamos o Kadu e o Indío também, que são mais velhos e subiram com a nossa.

Ele (Jorginho) cobra muita intensidade do time inteiro. Ontem ele deu até uma palestra, mostrou outros grandes times que jogam em cima da intensidade. Com e sem a bola. Ele tem cobrado bastante.

Sou bem tranquilo quanto a isso. Essas coisas não sobem a minha cabeça. O Jorginho, Joelton, Zinho me passam muita tranquilidade. Nenê me ajuda muito, o Nei que foi embora, foi um irmãozão.

CARACTERÍSTICAS
Mudou um pouco. Na base eu jogava mais a frente. Jorginho só pede para marcar um pouco mais. Faço o que eu sei aqui, é isso que ele me pede.

PHILIPE COUTINHO COMO ÍDOLO E APELIDO DE PET
Coutinho é meu ídolo. Não só pelo futebol, mas pela pessoa que ele é. É muito humilde, uma inspiração. O Pet, quando eu cheguei no Vasco, ele jogava aqui e e um diretor me viu e falou que o estilo de jogo era parecido.

SURPREENDEU COMEÇAR COMO TITULAR?
Não teve nenhuma conversa fora do Jorginho falando que ia me colocar como titular. Ele só pedia para eu me preparar. Não me surpreendi muito.

ELENCO MAIS EXPERIENTE
Eu acho que isso não vem muito ao caso, são todos mais experientes, me passam muita tranquilidade.

TEM ACOMPANHADO FALAREM DELE NA INTERNET?
É bem diferente. Na base o noticiário é bem menor. Agora tenho que tomar mais cuidado, principalmente com as postagens em redes sociais. O comportamento vai ser sempre o mesmo. Sou comprometido.

Eles sim são como pais. Não só para a gente, mas para todo o grupo. Eles sempre conversam com a gente, mostram o que está certo, errado.

وقال عاشور خلال تصريحات عبر الموقع الرسمي للزمالك: “الفارس الأبيض هو بيتي، وسعيد بتمديد عقدي مع القلعة البيضاء”.

وأضاف: “سأبذل قصارى جهدي في الفترة المقبلة لمساعدة الفريق على تحقيق المزيد من البطولات، وإسعاد جماهير نادي الزمالك وتحقيق طموحاتها”.

وتابع: “أتقدم بالشكر للجنة المكلفة بإدارة نادي الزمالك برئاسة الكابتن حسين لبيب على المجهودات التي تقوم بها اللجنة منذ توليها مهمة إدارة القلعة البيضاء”.

ويستعد الزمالك لمواجهة الإسماعيلي، يوم الجمعة المقبل في إطار منافسات الجولة الرابعة للدوري المصري الممتاز.

And what a solid display it was, shutting the Gunners out to make it four straight clean sheets in the top-flight.

Alderweireld, who earns £85k-per-week in N17, was colossal at the back alongside Eric Dier as he won five of six duels (83%), made a whopping 11 clearances and also blocked one of Arsenal’s 11 shots at goal, via SofaScore.

The 31-year-old powerhouse did ever so well to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang quiet, and that much was eptimoised in his impressive last-ditch block when the visitors were mounting the pressure during the second period.

Alasdair Gold at football.london graded the €30m (£27m) centre-back’s performance a nine out of ten, only bettered by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and claimed:

“Back in the defence and he showed why Mourinho threw him straight back in. Made a great sliding block to deny Aubameyang in the final 10 minutes.”

Indeed that was certainly the case and whilst Son and Kane rightly deserve the accolades, you cannot underestimate the calming presence of Alderweireld in that back line.

Many Liverpool fans have been reacting to news that striker Divock Origi is to be offered in a swap deal for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak.

The 20-year-old centre-back has earned plenty of plaudits for his performances in the Bundesliga and his maturity at such a young age was called “astonishing” by Stuttgart sporting director Thomas Hitzelsperger during his time at Die Roten (cited by talkSPORT).

Sky Germany (via Anfield Edition) reported that the Reds have contacted Schalke over sending Origi the other way in exchange for Kabak.

The Kop faithful have heavily criticised the Belgian of late, with some suggesting that his time at the club has come to an end.

With Liverpool’s current injury crisis in the defensive department, supporters would welcome offloading the 25-year-old in exchange for Kabak.

Glasgow Rangers are back in league action this afternoon, as they play host to Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic in a crunch Old Firm clash at the top of the table.

Rangers maintained their Premiership lead over Celtic with a hard-fought victory over St. Mirren as they avenged their early defeat to the Saints in the Betfred Cup.

The 54-time Scottish champions can inflict Neil Lennon’s second Old Firm defeat of this season by beating the Bhoys at Ibrox.

However, Gerrard faces some tough decisions after midfield duo Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack were ruled out of today’s action due to injury.

With that in mind, here is Football FanCast’s predicted starting line-up for Rangers this afternoon, which sees Gerrard make a couple of changes to the team that squeezed past the Saints.

Allan McGregor is expected to start in goal for Rangers this afternoon having been trusted for most Premiership and Europa League games this season.

It’s hard to imagine Gerrard making many changes to the back four, with Borna Barisic, Connor Goldson and James Tavernier likely to start.

Maybe Filip Helander could keep his place, but the Swedish centre-back was arguably the weakest link against Saints, so we’re backing 6 ft 3 colossus Leon Balogun to replace Helander in the heart of the defence.

As we mentioned earlier, both Arfield and Jack are unavailable for selection, which means Gerrard will most likely deploy a midfield three consisting of Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and Joe Aribo.

Having scored against Hibs, Ianis Hagi actually offered very little against Saints, so bringing Ryan Kent back to the left and switching Kemar Roofe to the right wing is surely a no-brainer, whilst Alfredo Morelos is likely to lead the line.

This means that Hagi will have to settle for a place on the bench – but don’t be surprised to see him feature as a substitute at some point in the second half.
