Fekir ‘not interested’ in Chelsea move, Liverpool fans react

This summer’s transfer window has been a stellar one for Liverpool, but the collapse of a deal to sign Nabil Fekir has been a running theme in the background. It has been widely reported that the Merseyside outfit ended their pursuit of the Lyon playmaker due to concerns over a previous foot injury. Some Liverpool fans have held hope that the club will eventually sign the Frenchman, but with just two days to go before the window shuts, a deal is unlikely. There has been speculation, though, that another Premier League club will scoop up the 25-year-old.According to a recent report in France Football, Chelsea are now showing an interest, butÂIan Doyle of the Liverpool EchoÂclaims that Fekir does not want to move to Stamford Bridge due to the lack of Champions League football on offer.

Letting Danny Ward leave is a mistake for Liverpool

Liverpool have spent the most during the transfer window out of all the Premier League clubs and that added quality leaves them with a great chance of success this season.

Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alisson and Shaqiri will all massively improve Liverpool and rivals should most definitely be fearful of facing the Reds.

Few players have departed Anfield but one sale that could potentially be a regret for Liverpool is letting go of Danny Ward.

The Welsh shot-stopper barely played during his time at Liverpool, having been sent out on-loan ever since arriving in 2012.

Ward has joined Leicester and Liverpool have upgraded their goalkeeper massively in Alisson but still having Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius could prove a bad thing if Alisson was to get injured.

Having Danny Ward on the bench instead of the other two could have been a much better option given how recent form has shown Ward to be a better ‘keeper on his day. At 25-years-old, Ward’s career as a top-flight goalkeeper is just getting started and eventually, the Welshman could reach his full potential and eclipse what Mignolet and Karius could ever do for Liverpool.

With all the money spent by Liverpool, it was well known they had to sell as well to make up for that but getting rid of probably their second best keeper makes little sense.

Despite barely ever featuring for the Liverpool first team, the form Ward showed in his loan spell with Huddersfield was enough to suggest that he would be a better option as back to Alisson than both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Could the Reds regret letting Danny Ward go to Leicester… Let us know!

Traore can make his mark at Wolves in Cavaleiro’s absence

Wolves kick off life back in the Premier League with an exciting 2-2 draw against Everton at Molineux following what can only be described as a promising transfer window.

The newly-promoted side managed to bring in the likes of Portugal No.1 Rui Patricio and his compatriot Joao Moutinho.

But in the midst of all the excitement surrounding Wolves’ summer acquisitions, it is important not to forget the West Midlands club come into the Premier League with a bunch of other quality players that they already had from the previous season including Ivan Cavaleiro.

The Breakdown

Cavaleiro was in fine form for Wolves in the Championship last term, scoring nine goals and registering 12 assists. However, it could be some time until the 24-year-old is able to make his Premier League bow.

According to the Express and Star, Cavaleiro could be sidelined for up to a month due to a back injury, which may present the perfect opportunity for Adama Traore.

Traore, who joined from Middlesbrough in a club-record deal, was also absent from Wolves’ Premier League opener.

But with Cavaleiro expected to be out for a while, £16.2m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Traore could find himself in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI very soon.

And the 22-year-old is returning to the Premier League with a point to prove. While he did show promise, Traore was often criticised for his end product as he saw relegation from English football’s top division twice with both Middlesbrough and Aston Villa.

Traore has since improved his game in the final third and managed to record 10 assists in the Championship for Boro last season and will now be looking to bring that sort of productivity to the Premier League.

Overall, Traore is still quite raw, but at 22 years of age, that is only to be expected.

What is most important is that the former Barcelona man has all the makings of a dangerous winger, and now has the chance to show that in the Premier League again — especially in the absence of Cavaleiro.

Dom Solanke could propel Stoke City back to the Premier League

Stoke City haven’t made a great start to life in the Championship.

The Potters were relegated from the Premier League after a dreadful run of form under Mark Hughes’ stewardship. Paul Lambert was given the job but was unable to save his side from relegation. He was replaced at the helm by former Derby boss, Gary Rowett, to much excitement over the course of the summer.

Still, those from the Potteries have made a poor start to the season after losing their opening fixture against Leeds United. Draws against both Brentford and Preston have left the Potters languishing near the relegation zone. Fortunately, EFL clubs can sign players on loan until the end of the month.

Therefore, Stoke should attempt to sign Dominic Solanke from Liverpool. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the England international joined the Reds from Chelsea last summer after his contract expired at Stamford Bridge. He made 21 appearances in the Premier League but found the back of the net just once. With Daniel Sturridge fit again, Solanke is pushed further down the pecking order and could use a loan move.

A tall, powerful forward, Solanke can hold the ball up and is a huge threat in the air. His style of play is perfectly suited to the Championship, and he would prove to be an excellent addition to the squad. With Stoke selling Xherdan Shaqiri to Liverpool earlier in the summer, they could hold the advantage in the race for his signature.

The 20-year-old needs to be playing first-team football to aid his development – a move to the bet365 Stadium makes perfect sense for all parties.

Stoke City fans praise Berahino as he scores first goal in two-and-a-half years

Saido Berahino was once tipped to become a fully-fledged England international, but his career took a downward turn in the final few years of his time at West Bromwich Albion.

The striker lost form and had fitness issues, which eventually resulted in him joining Stoke City in 2017.

The 25-year-old has struggled in front of goal for some time; in fact before Tuesday night he had not found the back of the net for two-and-a-half years.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”285457″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Theatre Of Screams & The Serb As Good As Salah”]

That all changed at the Bet365 Stadium when Premier League opposition Huddersfield Town arrived for an EFL Cup clash.

The Potters won 2-0 and Berahino opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, and it was a big moment for the attacker as he was surrounded by his teammates in celebration.

Stoke clinched the win thanks to a spectacular own goal from Juninho Bacuna, whose clearance from 50 yards out ended up in the Terriers’ goal.

On Twitter, plenty of Potters’ fans took a moment to praise Berahino for finding his shooting boots again.

HYS: Should Arsenal return to a back three?

Arsenal’s season so far can be defined by their current goal difference: 0.

Going forward, the Gunners have been brilliant at times. Defensively, however, Unai Emery’s men must do better.

The newly-installed centre-back partnership of Shkodran Mustafi and summer signing Sokratis looks to lack pace, mobility and an authoritative, organising figure. Emery’s insistence upon having his side play out from the back has meanwhile reduced the veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech to a jibbering, nervous wreck.

Right now, solutions for Arsenal appear thin on the ground. Reverting to the three-at-the-back system introduced by Arsene Wenger in his final couple of seasons at the Emirates Stadium would improve things for now though.

A back three would allow Emery to introduce Rob Holding to the rearguard alongside the established pair. Though young, the Englishman is the kind of reserved, covering defender who could serve to bring balance to Mustafi’s and Sokratis’ more aggressive instincts.

Furthermore, having three central defenders ought to make playing the ball out easier for the Gunners’ goalie.

This system could also aid Arsenal going forward. Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin have proved very effective in attack so far this season, but having an extra defender behind them should leave the North Londoners less susceptible to counter-attacks should the wing-backs be caught out of position. This tactic would allow Monreal and Bellerin to become wing-backs rather than full-backs, which would also eliminate the need for Arsenal to field actual wingers. Which is good, because they haven’t really got any.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”288872″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafas Pub Facts Murray The Magician & Desperately Seeking Zaha”]

Finally, a system featuring wing-backs creates space in the squad for a second centre-forward, meaning that playing three-at-the-back could even allow the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette partnership to flourish.

What do you think, Arsenal fans? Would you like to see Emery experiment with a back three?

Milinkovic-Savic would be the perfect Pogba replacement

According to The Express, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba has informed the club that he wishes to return to Juventus in the next transfer window.

What’s the story?

Pogba re-signed for United – having initially left the club as a teenager in 2012 – for a then-world record fee of £89 million in the summer of 2016. Two seasons on, however, and the Frenchman could be set to once again leave Old Trafford behind in favour of a switch to the Turin club.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”288872″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafas Pub Facts Murray The Magician & Desperately Seeking Zaha”]

In his second spell with the Red Devils, Pogba has struggled to maintain his finest form in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho should perhaps take this opportunity to move the France international on and use the inevitably significant funds raised to bring another midfield lynchpin to the club.

In that case, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ought to be the Portuguese boss’ top candidate to fill Pogba’s boots at Old Trafford.

Ready for the chance

The Serbian powerhouse, Milinkovic-Savic, is ready for the next step up in his career. The 23-year-old has been in tremendous form for Lazio and could become a dominant presence in the Premier League.

Like Pogba, Milinkovic-Savic provides a goal threat from midfield and also possesses exquisite technique and is capable of unpicking stubborn opposition defences with inventive passes. His athleticism, physicality and imposing 6’4″ frame also makes him an intimidating presence in the centre of the park and allows him to be extremely effective when carrying out his defensive duties.

The next step he must take in his career is a move to one of Europe’s giant clubs, but with a Transfermarkt valuation of £81 million, he wouldn’t come cheap. However, Pogba himself has a Transfermarkt valuation of £81 million, meaning United ought to be able to raise the necessary funds by selling the World Cup winner on in January.

Replacing Pogba with Milinkovic-Savic would be excellent business on United’s part, and would ensure fans quickly forget about the 2018 World Cup winner.

Frugal Newcastle have paid the price for missed opportunities

According to L’Equippe, through Sport Witness, PSG have vastly improved the contract of their left back Stanley N’Soki, after Newcastle showed interest in him over the summer.

The 19-year-old has had his deal with the French champions increased from a paltry €5k a month to a significantly improved €3m a year.

Unfortunately for fans of The Magpies, this highlights what is going wrong with their club. Newcastle’s reluctance to spend a lot of money at the transfer window has now meant that they have lost one of their targets.

If Mike Ashley had provided the money to lodge a bid for the defender in the summer, manager Rafa Benítez would probably landed him for a very modest price. However, after this huge contract improvement, they would now be looking at a much heftier price for the youngster. To make matters worse, they have found themselves stretched in the fullback department so far this term, and N’Soki would have relieved those problems.

N’Soki is valued at £4.5m on Transfermarkt.co.uk, but Newcastle would count themselves very lucky if they could sign the player for anything near that price. This is not only because of his new contract, but because he has become a favourite in Thomas Tuchel’s side in the French capital, starting three of the first five games of the season.

This will continue to be a problem for Newcastle for as long as they refuse to pay for players; they will continually lose out unless they strike when they have the chance.

Craigan hails Gerrard’s signing of McAuley

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been praised for the signing of Gareth McAuley by BT Sport pundit Stephen Craigan.

38-year-old McAuley was drafted in as a free agent after the August transfer deadline passed to provide experience to the defensive line, competing with Nikola Katic, Joe Worrall and Connor Goldson for first-team football at Ibrox.

McAuley is yet to feature for Gerrard’s side but pundit Craigan believes the signing of the former West Brom man is crucial to erasing late errors from his side, who have conceded last-minute goals against Motherwell and Aberdeen so far this season.

“What he will have learnt is that losing a last minute goal at Motherwell, losing a last minute goal at Aberdeen, things could have been so much different,” he told BT Sport.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”291236″ player=”12034″ title=”Jose Mourinho Has Turned Into Arsene Wenger”]

“As a young manager, in games, he has got to trust his players and get that information across, which is why I’m not surprised he’s signed Gareth McAuley.

“6ft 4in centre-half, away from home, particularly at Motherwell and Hamilton, where the games are going to be scrappy and it’s not always going to be plain sailing, you might need an outstanding, aggressive centre-half to go and clear the ball, and play a different style.”

Having kept a clean sheet at the weekend for only the second time this season, it is apparent that Rangers need more defensive work and the boost McAuley provides could indeed be crucial as the season progresses.

Aleksandar Pesic could give Leeds United the depth needed

Leeds United are yet to taste defeat under Marcelo Bielsa’s leadership.

Bielsa became the highest paid manager in Leeds history this summer and arrived at Elland Road with a glistening reputation. The Argentine had managed both Argentina and Chile’s national team as well as teams in the French and Spanish leagues. Following an excellent start to life in the Championship, Leeds have been tipped for promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds currently sit top of the Championship table and are yet to be defeated under the Argentine’s guidance. Despite their impressive form, the Whites have been left with a shortage of quality options up front. Patrick Bamford will be sidelined for the foreseeable future with a knee injury while Kemar Roofe is also out of action with a calf problem.

One man Leeds United should be keeping tabs on is Serbian forward – Aleksandar Pesic. Valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old has played his trade all across the world despite his age. After spells with Toulouse and Atalanta, Pesic’s best form came at Red Star Belgrade, where he netted an extraordinary 29 goals in all competitions. It wasn’t only his goalscoring exploits that caught the eye with the forward also racking up 21 assists for his team-mates.

The forward was snapped up by Saudi side – Al-Ittihad – in the summer as a result of his excellent showings. If his form continues, Leeds should attempt to lure him to Elland Road in January. Pesic would offer Bielsa another top option up front that could fire them to promotion.

If he can replicate the form he showed in his homeland, Leeds could grab themselves the bargain of the window.
