Celtic set to make offer for £10 million ace after impressing club scout

Scottish champions Celtic are ready to make a transfer offer for a young star who is also wanted by a Premier League team, according to a recent report.

Celtic transfer news

Despite sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership and still having more than a good chance of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers will have his eye on potential arrivals, as he will want to keep improving his side.

Celtic keen to sign wonderkid who club chiefs think is a star in the making

Celtic have their eyes set on signing a young talent this month, but face Premier League competition.

From recent reports, in what remains of this transfer window, it has the makings of being a busy period for the Hoops. Indeed, it has been reported that they are expected to sign Kieran Tierney this month – the Arsenal left-back is expected to join on a six-month loan deal before signing a three-year contract at the end of the campaign, when he becomes a free agent.

As well as looking to sign Tierney, it has also been reported that Celtic are interested in signing Burnley’s Josh Brownhill. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of this season, and a host of clubs are keen on signing the player, with Celtic being one of them, but it remains unclear if they will make a move this month or wait until the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s James McAtee has also been linked with a move to Parkhead this month, as he struggles to make an impact at the Etihad. The 22-year-old has found game time hard to come by, and a move could be on the cards.

Celtic set to make offer for £10 million winger

As well as a new left-back and a midfielder possibly arriving this month, the Hoops are also looking to add to their attacking options. According to reports from Sweden relayed by The Sun, Celtic are set to make an offer for Bazoumana Toure of Hammarby.

The 18-year-old joined the Swedish side in March 2024, and during his time there, he has really impressed, scoring plenty of goals and terrorising defenders. Toure is under contract until December 2028, but he could be set for a move in this January transfer window.

It is reported that Celtic have sent scout Jay Lefevre to Sweden to watch Toure in action, and he has been left impressed by the player’s performances. So much so that the Hoops are now ready to make an offer for the Ivory Coast under-20 international. However, Celtic are not the only side chasing the winger, as Premier League side Brighton are also keen on Toure.

Toure joined Hammarby for around £300,000, and it is now reported that the Swedish side have placed a £10 million price tag on the attacker. Hammarby’s manager, Mikael Hjelmberg has confirmed that he expects Toure to become the club’s and country’s record transfer sale: “Of course, that’s definitely the ambition. There are many clubs who ask about him, and there are many clubs who are curious about what it would cost to buy him.

“But we have been quite clear about what we think – and that may also be why nothing concrete has come yet. I’ve told Bazou and his representatives that if we’re going to sell this winter, it should be for a Swedish record.”

Kyle Mayers' 126* powers West Indies to big lead

Brathwaite, Campbell and Blackwood all chip in with handy knocks as West Indies end the day 106 runs ahead

West Indies started the second Test 167 runs behind Bangladesh and finished it 106 runs ahead, at the Daren Sammy Stadium on Saturday.Allrounder Kyle Mayers led the turnaround with a chanceless and unbeaten 126 runs, easily the highest score by either side after two days.In reply to Bangladesh’s sub-par 234, West Indies moved from 67 without loss overnight to 340 for 5 at stumps.West Indies, who won the Antigua Test in just over three days, were well on course to clinch the short series. After captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored 51 and contributed a century opening stand with John Campbell, Mayers stopped a mini-collapse with Jermaine Blackwood, and cruised on with Joshua Da Silva. Da Silva was 26 not out after facing 106 balls.Brathwaite and Campbell, from a shared 67 overnight, reached 100 together in the first hour, including a seven-ball over by Shoriful Islam. But Shoriful ended the partnership when he nicked Campbell’s glove and dismissed him for 45.Brathwaite brought up his 27th Test fifty from 105 balls, but added only one more run when he missed offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and was bowled. In the next over, Khaled Ahmed got Raymon Reifer and Nkrumah Bonner to play on to their stumps.Three wickets in two overs energised Bangladesh and sent a warning call to West Indies, but Mayers and Blackwood conceded nothing else before and after lunch. Blackwood played an anchor role, and Mayers gradually opened up to reach his fifty off 75 balls.Their partnership was worth 116 just after tea when Blackwood misread Mehidy and was out leg before on 40 from 121 balls.Mayers turned cautious again, but even after Bangladesh took the new ball, the batter switched to fearless mode when another milestone was in sight.Mayers was in and out of the 90s in the space of six balls, bringing up his century with a six by pulling Shoriful into the stands over square leg. His second century in his 13th Test came from 150 balls.By stumps, he was on 126 after 180 balls, a large proportion driven through the covers, with more great support from wicketkeeper Da Silva. Their stand was on 92 from 33 overs.

Wolves seal £10m deal to sign "strong" midfielder who’s already on his way

Still looking to turn their season around, Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to welcome their second signing of the January transfer window, with a new midfielder thought to be on his way to Molineux.

Wolves transfer news

Those in the Midlands have already added one reinforcement this month in the form of Emmanuel Agbadou, who has finally ended their search for a much-needed central defender. But they’re seemingly not done there and rightly so.

As things stand, Vitor Pereira’s side are destined for a Premier League relegation scrap right up until the bitter end, which could end in disaster if they fail to welcome further key additions before the end of the month.

On the transfer front, the rumours have continued to arrive regarding potential moves for the likes of Renato Veiga, who has found himself on the fringes of Enzo Maresca’s strongest Chelsea side.

It’s not the versatile Swiss midfielder who’s stealing the biggest headlines, however. Instead, those in the Midlands have reportedly turned their attention towards Portugal in what has become quite the trend at the Molineux over the years.

According to reports in Portugal (as relayed by Sport Witness), Wolves have now all but sealed a deal to sign Manu Silva from Vitoria Guimaraes – with the midfielder already “on his way” to the Midlands to join up with Pereira’s side, as per Jornal de Noticias.

In a package worth a reported €12m (£10m) this month, Wolves look set to get their man, and in doing so, an ideal replacement for Mario Lemina, who currently looks destined for Saudi Arabia.

Wolves' most expensive signings of all time

Signing from Portugal has certainly gone well in the past, and after earlier reports indicated their interest, it looks as though Wolves are set to sign Manu Silva and hand Pereira another welcomed boost this month.

"Strong" Manu Silva brings key versatility

Whilst he is likely to be used primarily as a midfielder, Manu Silva’s ability to also play as a centre-back will undoubtedly help a Wolves side often left short on defensive options, even after the arrival of Agbadou earlier this month.

The 23-year-old has unsurprisingly found himself at the centre of praise since Wolves’ interest emerged, with Rising Star, which takes a closer look at emerging talents, praising his “strong” aerial ability and “effective ball distribution” earlier this week.

For just £10m, Manu Silva could quickly become a bargain buy at Wolves if he goes on to play an integral part in their survival. Potentially following the same path as Ruben Neves from Portugal to the Midlands, the young midfielder will be one to watch at the heart of Pereira’s side.

Potentially two signings down, Wolves have so far enjoyed a successful January transfer window, to say the least.

Cricket Australia could block Lynn's ILT20 deal as BBL overseas challenge highlighted

As expected, a number of high-profile draft nominees will be part of the new UAE league which will leave some tricky decisions for clubs

Cricket Australia could stand in the way of Chris Lynn’s participation in the ILT20 while the challenge the BBL faces recruiting overseas talent has been laid bare after headline acts from the overseas draft, including Alex Hales and James Vince, were unveiled as signings for the new league which runs head-to-head with the BBL in January.Another 10 overseas players who have previously played in the BBL but have not nominated for the draft, including Andre Russell, have also signed on to the UAE league with more expected in the coming days as well as announcements of signings to the new South Africa league. As expected, David Warner was not among the first 54 players named to play in the UAE as he is set to get a deal to play in the BBL but Lynn has signed as the only Australian so far.Related

Zampa: Overseas franchise leagues in UAE, South Africa 'aren't in my calculations'

Warner unlikely to feature in inaugural ILT20

He does not have a BBL deal having been let go by Brisbane Heat but Adelaide Strikers have shown some interest. If he were to sign a BBL deal it would be difficult for him to get a no-objection certificate (NOC) to play in the UAE and CA confirmed that it had not received a NOC request from any player thus far and would prioritise the needs of Australian cricket.”Cricket Australia has not received any applications for No Objection Certificates pertaining to a player’s participation in any overseas competitions for the upcoming season,” a CA spokesperson said.”Our guiding principle remains the prioritisation and protection of Australia’s domestic summer of cricket and the interests of the game overall. As such, NOCs are generally only issued for the period after the Australian season has finished.”Lynn would need an NOC to play in the UAE even if he did not sign up for the BBL because Australia would be considered his home board, but it is understood that any move to block him from playing could be a restraint of trade under Australian law. Shane Watson previously played in the Bangladesh Premier League in 2019-20 without a NOC having retired from the BBL the previous year. It’s understood that Lynn’s management, the Australian Cricketers’ Association and the UAE league are aware of CA’s position. The ILT20 unveiled their first overseas signings on Monday with BBL regulars and draft nominees Hales, Vince, Colin Munro, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Qais Ahmad among them. The other players to have nominated for both the BBL draft and signed to the ILT20 are: Evin Lewis, Akeal Hosein, Ravi Rampaul, and Sherfane Rutherford (from West Indies); Bhanuka Rajapaksa (from Sri Lanka); Dan Lawrence, Jamie Overton, Richard Gleeson, Liam Dawson, and Benny Howell (from England); David Wiese (from Namibia); Noor Ahmad (from Afghanistan), Blessing Muzarabani and Sikandar Raza (from Zimbabwe).Meanwhile, Russell, Dawid Malan, Sunil Narine, Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Tom Banton, Colin Ingram, Ben Duckett and Saqib Mahmood are the other players who have previously played in the BBL but have not opted for the draft, instead heading straight to the UAE.CA had hoped that the new overseas draft, which will take place for the first time on August 28, would help attract more overseas talent to the BBL with a AUD$340,000 (US$237,000 approx.) salary on offer for the top platinum picks. If drafted, Alex Hales would leave the tournament about halfway through•Getty Images

But it is looking increasingly likely that many of the most sought-after picks are only going to be available for the first half of the tournament which will see BBL teams think long and hard about taking them given they will need to use close to 10% of the $AUD1.9 million salary cap and might only be available for a handful of games. The BBL begins on December 13 and runs to February 4 while ILT20 runs from January 6 to February 12. Dates for the South Africa T20 league are set to be announced in the coming days but it will likely run in a similar timeframe to the ILT20. Liam Livingstone, who will likely be a platinum pick in the BBL, is expected to be one of those heading to South Africa.CA and the BBL have been trumped by the contracts on offer in the UAE and South Africa, something that was forecast by Ricky Ponting and Usman Khawaja last month. The ILT20 is offered up to US$450,000 (approx AUD$650,000) while South Africa is understood to have offered a minimum of US$300,000 (approx AUD$430,000).Apart from Lynn, the BBL is likely to retain Australia’s high-profile players in part due to their contractual obligations and their desire to continue to play for Australia, as Adam Zampa recently articulated, although it remains to be seen if all take deals. Only Mitchell Starc has so far confirmed he won’t participate, instead opting to rest.CA’s contracts mean that their international players are unable to participate in overseas leagues without NOCs but the contracts on offer in the ILT20 and South Africa, as well as the top contract to platinum picks in the BBL overseas draft, has caused some angst amongst Australia’s best players given their BBL deals fall well short of those numbers. Warner is likely to earn something similar to a BBL platinum pick on a one-off basis while others will have to play on standard contracts for this season before a new MOU is negotiated between CA and the Australian Cricketers Association for season 2023-24 and beyond.

Man Utd now plotting cheap deal to sign "amazing" versatile midfield gem

Setting their sights on midfield reinforcements, Manchester United are now reportedly plotting a move to sign a young versatile La Liga star for Ruben Amorim in what could be a bargain deal.

Man Utd transfer news

Bargain is certainly a word that Manchester United will be keen to hear both this month and during the summer transfer window, with the club reportedly walking a fine line when it comes to profit and sustainability issues at a time when they once again need several reinforcements. The last thing that they need is to run into any sanctions on that front and that could yet see player sales take priority this month.

Man Utd discussing stunning Sanchez-esque swap deal to sign "fantastic" ace

They’ll be hoping he’s better than Sanchez…

ByTom Cunningham Jan 25, 2025

Out-of-favour stars such as Alejandro Garnacho could, therefore, provide the Red Devils with a parting gift if he does complete a mid-season switch to Chelsea as rumours suggest is certainly a possibility.

The same can be said for Marcus Rashford. Dropped since missing out on derby victory over Manchester City, the Carrington graduate desperately needs a move away and one which could yet fund the Red Devils’ pursuit of Patrick Dorgu this month.

His departure could also aid those at Old Trafford in pursuit of a summer target. According to Caught Offside, Manchester United are now plotting a cheap deal to sign Lucien Agoume from Sevilla this summer. The 22-year-old midfielder would reportedly not cost a substantial fee this summer, leaving the door ajar for United to potentially make a much-needed bargain move.

A rising star, Agoume would be well worth the gamble for a bargain fee this summer. The Frenchman could even become the missing piece in Amorim’s midfield next to Manuel Ugarte, whilst also providing centre-back cover thanks to his key versatility.

Whilst the Sevilla man is not a name that will instantly steal a number of headlines, he could quickly play a pivotal role in transforming Amorim’s side in his first full season in charge.

"Amazing" Agoume could partner Ugarte

Slowly but surely, Manchester United are moving beyond the need for Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in what should be a crucial step towards returning to the Champions League. But at least one more option must still arrive to compete with Kobbie Mainoo for a place alongside Ugarte and that may well prove to be Agoume this summer.

The Sevilla star certainly has the traits to step into the Old Trafford midfield, with analyst Ben Mattinson praising his “composed” ability to dictate play and “top ball retention” before dubbing him an “amazing #6 profile” at the end of last year.

With plenty to do when the summer arrives, Agoume should be among the options that Manchester United should consider if his valuation is, indeed, set at a cheap price.
