James Vince's dazzling hundred keeps holders Kent in doldrums

Tom Prest provides support act for Hawks captain as visitors fall well short

Hampshire 221 for 3 (Vince 100, Prest 52) beat Kent 167 for 8 (Denly 49, Wood 2-26, Ellis 2-26) by 54 runsJames Vince demolished Kent Spitfires with an obscene Vitality Blast century as Hampshire Hawks romped to a fifth straight victory.Hawks skipper Vince recorded his third T20 century with exactly 100 in 54 balls as he combined with Tom Prest – who impressed with his second format fifty – for a 128 stand for the second wicket. With Ross Whiteley’s six-ball 23, the hosts bashed their third-highest T20 score of 221 – something Spitfires never looked like chasing, eventually falling 54 runs short, in front of the largest Ageas Bowl crowd of the season. After four straight losses to start the Blast, Hampshire have got on a roll and moved into the top four for the first time. Holders Kent remain rooted to the bottom of the South Group with two wins from nine.Having been stuck in, Hampshire were only 32 for 1 – Ben McDermott skied Grant Stewart – at the end of the powerplay, and 12 of those came in the sixth over. That inauspicious start ramped up as Prest and Vince found their gears quickly. They started by using the expansive Ageas Bowl outfield to milk ones and twos, before accelerating into boundaries. The turning point from normal accumulation to intergalactic striking was Stewart’s third over which went for 25 runs. Prest started with a slog-swept six before Vince rounded it out with six, six, four. From then on, the Hawks flew. Only one over in the second half of the innings went for fewer than nine runs. Both Prest and Vince reached half-centuries in 34 balls as they became the first Hampshire duo to put on 100 together in a T20 versus Kent. After Vince had taken George Linde for 17, including a huge maximum over the leg side, Qais Ahmad ended the partnership on 128. Prest’s slog sweep only went up as he departed for a season-best 52.If Vince had noticed his partner had morphed into Joe Weatherley or not his steely demeanour and crisp ball-striking wasn’t affected. His second fifty came in 19 balls – making it 53 balls in total – and was coloured by three towering sixes into the leg side and five fours. He fell a ball later, which only brought Whiteley to the crease. He and Weatherley put on 40 in 10 balls to take Hawks miles past 200 – with 30 coming off the final over. The enormous score, albeit the third-highest around the country on Friday night, was only beaten in Hampshire’s record books by 249 at Derbyshire in 2017 and 225 versus Middlesex at home in 2006.Kent’s reply couldn’t have started worse as Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jordan Cox were both caught in the ring before the end of the third over. Sam Billings was bowled by James Fuller not long after, but Joe Denly and Alex Blake added 54 to momentarily fight back.Denly drilled to long off, Alex Blake to long-on, Linde to a sprawling mid-off, Jack Leaning was cleaned up and Qais was caught and bowled as Kent ended up on 167 for 8 and Hampshire cruised to the two points.

Spurs targeting "future legend" who could become better than VDV & Romero

Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive injury crisis has been well documented in recent months, undoubtedly contributing massively to the recent slump in form under Ange Postecoglou.

Saturday’s clash with Newcastle United saw Archie Gray feature in an unnatural centre-back role once more, with Djed Spence also having to do the same on the left-hand side of the backline.

Brandon Austin was brought in between the sticks for his first-ever Premier League appearance, as a result of Fraser Forster’s illness, which kept him out of the meeting with his former side.

Tottenham Hotspur managerAngePostecogloubefore the match

Guglielmo Vicario, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have all sustained various setbacks in recent times, with the aforementioned players the main crop of defensive talent currently in the Aussie’s first team.

Such absences have seen Spurs plummet down the table, with the supporters desperately hoping for the return of the stars as soon as possible to help save their campaign, which is rapidly declining week after week.

However, with the January transfer window now open, Ange has an opportunity to add depth to his defensive unit, leading to one name already being linked with a move to North London.

Spurs in the race to land defensive wonderkid

According to CaughtOffside, Spurs have entered the race to sign Lens star Abdukodir Khusanov this window, but face stiff competition from various other top-flight outfits.

Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers have already enquired about a move for the 20-year-old, with Newcastle United also on the list of potential destinations for the youngster.

The report mentions that Khusanov could be available for a fee in the region of €20m (£16.6m) a potential bargain given his recent form for the French side in Ligue 1 throughout 2024/25.

He’s started 11 times in the league, with Lens currently occupying seventh place and looking to secure a third consecutive season of European football, with the Uzbekistan international playing a crucial role in their ambitions.

Given the interest from elsewhere, the Spurs hierarchy will have a huge battle on their hands to secure the services of the young star, but he would be an impressive addition – one that could push two current stars for their first-team spots in the coming months.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Why Khusanov could become better than Van de Ven & Romero

Over the last 12 months, Van de Ven and Romero have often been Postecoglou’s main centre-back partnership, handing the pair the responsibility of leading the club up the Premier League table.

However, the recent injury issues have highlighted the need for added depth in the backline, which could prevent the likes of Gray from featuring in such a role down the line.

All supporters will be desperate for the return of the aforementioned players, but one of them may struggle to regain their regular starting role should any deal be completed for Khusanov in the next few weeks.

The 20-year-old, who’s been dubbed as a “future legend” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has produced various stats in the current campaign that are better than Van de Ven and Romero could muster, highlighting what a quality addition he would be.

The Lens ace has made more blocks per 90 minutes whilst also making more interceptions per 90, showcasing his defensive qualities that could improve a Spurs backline that has shipped 21 goals in all competitions since the start of December.

Khusanov has also won more aerials along with more clearances per 90, providing Ange with the star quality his side has desperately lacked recently as a result of the injury crisis in North London.

Such figures could see the Aussie replace either of the regular starters after January should they strike a deal with the French outfit before the end of the transfer window.

The club’s lack of depth has been desperately highlighted, with Khusanov undoubtedly a stellar talent who could provide the depth and quality to help transform their fortunes during the second half of the season.

£16.6m would be an absolute bargain for a player of his star quality, having the potential to turn into a potential world beater, but it’s pivotal that they fend off interest from elsewhere to secure his signature during the ongoing window.

Mano Menezes dá primeiro treino no Inter e deixa recado: 'Simplificar é o caminho inicial'

Estávamos falando do torcedor.

– Eu estou aqui porque o Inter enfrentou dificuldades.

Leeds could land a bigger signing than Mumba in "unbelievable" £11m talent

Many Leeds United fans will be expecting promotion from the Championship this season after their stellar start to the campaign in recent months.

Daniel Farke has led his side to a tally of 53 points from the opening 26 matches of the 2024/25 season, sitting at the top of the table with 20 games remaining.

After the disappointment of losing in the play-off final last term, the German has done a superb job in picking the players back up and mounting another charge to end their two-year Premier League exile.

However, with the January transfer window now upon us, it’s no surprise to see a whole host of players touted with a winter move to Elland Road to aid the push for promotion.

At the halfway stage of the month, no deals are yet to be completed, but numerous names remain in the pipeline over a move to Yorkshire, including multiple who have previously featured under the Whites boss.

Leeds United’s current transfer targets in January

Winger Louie Barry is one player who is yet to feature under Farke in his professional career but could provide the added ammunition for their end-of-season push.

The winger spent the first half of the season on loan at League One outfit Stockport County, scoring 15 times in just 23 times, before being recalled by parent club Aston Villa.

He’s since been linked with a move to Yorkshire, but competition is fierce, with countless other second-division sides also in the race for the 21-year-old’s signature this month.

Plymouth Argyle star Bali Mumba has been another name thrown into the hat in recent days, which could lead to a potential reunion with Farke after his time under him at Norwich City.

The 23-year-old, who can play at either full-back or in midfield, has been scouted by the club’s hierarchy in recent matches, leading to rumours over a move to the Whites.

However, Farke could land a bigger signing than the Argyle man, should he decide to push for another reunion with a player who played his best football under the German.

The Leeds target who'd be a bigger signing than Mumba

Injuries have been unkind to Farke in recent months, losing captain Ethan Ampadu for a large chunk of the campaign after his knee injury during the opening weeks of 2024/25.

However, he’s since returned and featured in a variety of roles, such as centre-back alongside his favoured position just in front of the back four – alongside the dependable Ao Tanaka.

There’s no denying that the Welshman is a more useful asset higher up, opening the door to a potential defensive reinforcement before the closure of the window.

Such a shift could allow for Andrew Omobamidele to link back up with the German at Elland Road after previously featuring under his guidance at Carrow Road.

The Irishman, who’s free to leave Nottingham Forest on loan this month after joining for £11m last year, has been of interest to the Leeds boss in recent weeks – unsurprisingly given his previous time under the manager.

The 22-year-old secured promotion from the Championship with Farke in 2020/21, potentially looking to achieve a similar feat should he make the switch up north over the coming weeks.

He’s only played 90 minutes of football under Nuno Espírito Santo this campaign, but did produce some key stats under the Portuguese boss last term which would make him a perfect fit for the backline of Farke.

Omobamidele, who’s been dubbed “unbelievable” by Gavin Bazunu, completed 88% of his passes, whilst winning 2.3 duels per 90 – making him the perfect ball-playing centre-back in the current philosophy in place at Elland Road.

The Irish international would be a phenomenal addition to the side, having bags of experience in English football despite his tender age – providing more depth in their quest for promotion.

Given his previous success from the Championship, he could be a stellar pickup, arguably making the difference in Leeds ending their exile from England’s top flight.
