Shubman Gill continued to make a case for selection as a Test opener, scoring another century on day three of the second unofficial Test in Lincoln. It was an excellent day for India’s Test batsmen overall, with Hanuma Vihari (59) and Cheteshwar Pujara (52*) also spending valuable time in the middle as India A went to stumps at 234 for 1 in reply to New Zealand A’s 390 for 9 declared.While New Zealand A were under the pump with the ball, conceding close to four-and-a-half runs per over, they had a good day with the bat, with allrounder Daryl Mitchell keeping himself in contention for the Tests with his eighth first-class century.All of day two had been washed out, and Mitchell was batting on 36 when New Zealand A resumed on 276 for 5. That was the only success for New Zealand A in 53 overs, as Gill and Pujara dug in until stumps, putting on an unbroken 123 in 31.5 overs. Gill ended the day batting on 107 off 153 balls, with 13 fours and a six, and Pujara on 52 off 99, with seven fours and a six.With Rohit Sharma injured and out of the Test squad, Gill and Prithvi Shaw are vying for one slot alongside Mayank Agarwal at the top of the order. While Shaw and Agarwal are opening for India in the ongoing ODI series, Gill has struck a rich vein of form for India A, his century in this innings following up scores of 83 and 204* in the first unofficial Test in Christchurch. Going into the final day in Lincoln, Gill has a first-class average of 75.14, with seven hundreds and ten fifties in 21 matches.

Australia coach Matthew Mott has backed opener Alyssa Healy to continue to play her natural risk-reward game in the T20 World Cup despite a poor run in the recent tri-series against India and England.Healy registered scores of 9, 1, 0, 1, and 4 in the tri-series. It was the first time in her career she had been dismissed for five consecutive single-figure scores in T20I.In the previous 18 months Healy had dominated the format scoring a staggering 867 runs in 20 innings, at an average of 54.18 and a strike-rate of 157.63, including in a world record 148 not out against Sri Lanka in her last T20I in 2019.On the eve of a home World Cup, having been player of the tournament in the West Indies in 2018, Mott said Healy was upbeat and backed her to once again be a dominant force for Australia at the top of the order.”She knows she plays a game that’s high risk and it’s not going to come off all the time,” Mott said. “She had a golden run there for a while which I think she’s mindful it was probably as good as she could get and the good thing is she hasn’t wasted too much form.”She’s pretty up and about. She’s not out there struggling at the moment. Every time she’s had one chance when she has made a mistake she’s paid a heavy price. The good thing is the main tournament is coming up, she delivered in the last World Cup in just about every game so with quality players like that you’ve just got to keep backing them in because they can win you matches.”It was a view echoed by captain Meg Lanning. “She’s been so successful in that over the last few years and gets us off to a really good start,” she said at the captain’s day in Sydney. “I’d be more worried if she was going out and blocking it for three overs because that’s not her natural game. We bat down to probably No. 8, genuine batters who can open in the WBBL, so if someone is not firing and we’ve got four or five match-winners there then you’d hope someone else could step up on that particular day.”In recent times Beth Mooney has done that well as well. It’s not like the opening partnership hasn’t been a success and there are different times where both will have their day but I think the strategy is something where we’re going to be very keen to stick to.”Australia have a couple of fitness concerns heading into Friday’s opening match against India at Sydney Showgrounds. Erin Burns is still recovering from a knee injury while Sophie Molineux is overcoming a corked calf. Mott expects both to be available although it is unlikely they will play in Tuesday’s practice match against South Africa in Adelaide. Australia is planning on playing 13 and also practicing a Super Over regardless of the result after losing one against England in Canberra in the tri-series.”It’s something we discussed with the ICC the other day,” Mott said. “They’d like to see it. I think it’s a great idea. It’s a good initiative. Certainly, we were caught out a little bit with some rule changes in the tri-series so an extra chance to practice it in a game against another opposition we’ll be definitely putting our hands up for it.”

David Ornstein has since shut down any rumours about Salah's Anfield future, but it's a long summer ahead and Michael Edwards will undoubtedly have some decisions to make. If a tempting offer does come in for the 32-year-old in one of Liverpool's last chances to cash in, what happens next will be incredibly interesting. If a ruthless decision is made, however, the Reds will need a replacement who can fill any major void left behind.

With that said, according to Georgian reporter Bacho Tsalugelashvili, Liverpool are interested in signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia amid doubts over his future at Napoli. Tsalugelashvili told a Naples-based radio station (via Area Napoli): "Is Kvaratskhelia's agent talking to De Laurentiis? I believe the agent will meet with the president next week. However, either a contract renewal will materialize or Kvara will go to a top club. I don't know if it's Barcelona or another team.

"Could it be a Premier League club? I don't know. Liverpool are also interested in Kvaratskhelia, although Barcelona's interest is more concrete. There are management sources that confirm the will of the Blaugrana club."

As things stand, Kvaratskhelia's current Napoli contract is set to expire in the summer of 2027, meaning that the Serie A giants aren't in a position of panic just yet, though this could change if Liverpool step up their interest this summer.

The man who should come in for Kulusevski today is Richarlison, as the Brazilian can slot in as the central striker, while Son moves back out on the left and Johnson moves to the right.

This might not be the ideal setup for Spurs in the long run, but it was the setup when the team finally started to look threatening against Liverpool on Sunday, and the former Everton ace was at the centre of it all.

In his short time on the pitch, he managed to take two shots on target and actually score a goal, and while he hasn't had an unbelievable season, he has been reasonably effective when given the chance.

In all, the "relentless" forward, as described by journalist Joe Strange, has scored 12 goals and provided four assists in just 31 games, or 1737 minutes. This is the second-best goal involvements to minutes ratio among the club's primary attackers this season, behind only Son.

Ultimately, while Kulusevksi is a talented player and has shown as much in his time at the club, he was woefully ineffective against Liverpool last week, so he cannot start this time around, with the best alternative seeing Richarlison earn another start as the central striker.

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Jun-2020Matt Poore, the New Zealand right-hand batsman and offspinner from the 1950s, died in Auckland on Thursday, ten days after completing his 90th birthday.A batsman who bowled a bit, Poore played most of his cricket in Christchurch in a first-class career that ran from 1950-51 to 1961-62. He played 14 Tests in a three-year span from 1953 to 1956 but never ended on a winning side. New Zealand lost nine of those 14 Tests and the remaining five were draws.He made his Test debut against South Africa at Eden Park in Auckland, scoring 45 and 8 not out, while also picking up two wickets in each innings. That was to remain his best performance at the highest level as he never scored more in an innings and picked up just five more wickets overall in the format. His Test career ended with 355 runs at an average of 15.43 and nine wickets at 40.77. Among non-wicketkeepers, Poore’s 14 Tests remain the most for anyone who never scored a half-century or took a three-wicket haul.Writing in ESPNcricinfo, Martin Williamson noted: “His best returns came on the 1953-54 tour of South Africa where he scored 170 runs in the five Tests, and 550 at 22.91 on the tour as a whole. On his only other trip overseas – to India and Pakistan in 1955-56 – he was less successful, amassing only 132 runs in seven Tests. He was a better player than the figures suggest – his first-class best was 142 for Central Districts.
