Nottinghamshire have bolstered their batting for the County Championship run-in by signing West Indian Kraigg Brathwaite after Quinton de Kock was withdrawn from his deal by Cricket South Africa.Brathwaite goes straight into Nottinghamshire’s squad for their match against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl. They are currently second in Division One, nine points behind Somerset, with Surrey holding a considerable lead at the top.Brathwaite is a proven Test match opener, averaging 37.94 over 49 Tests, which included scores of 134 and 95 against England at Headingley last year when West Indies produced a memorable chase on the final day.He does not feature in T20 cricket – so there is no clash with the ongoing CPL – and is a rarity among the current generation having never played in the format in his career.”I’m excited about getting going at this great Club and hopefully I can help the side push for the Championship title in the run-in,” said Brathwaite.”Being able to call Trent Bridge home for a few weeks will be a great feeling and I’ll be looking to give my best for the team across the final five games. Testing myself in English conditions will develop my game and I’m hoping to continue my good form with the bat, starting on Sunday.”Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, said: “Kraigg will bring great experience to the side having played nearly 50 Test matches and we hope he can continue his form on these shores. Put simply, he adds quality and depth we’re hopeful that he can make contributions in the final weeks of the season.”

Fez história e continua a fazer. Passou por todas as situações.

Romano now shares Man Utd update on possible exit for "very important" star

Manchester United are set for a busy transfer window at Old Trafford, and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now issued a big update on one of their star players' future at Old Trafford.

Manchester United exit updates…

Manchester United's rollercoaster start to the campaign hasn't yielded as many positive results as Erik ten Hag would've liked, though the Dutchman will point to his lengthy injury list and off-field developments involving the likes of Jadon Sancho as reasons why the Red Devils haven't been able to establish a consistent pattern of form until recently.

Winning four of their last five matches in the Premier League, Manchester United sit sixth place in the table and will have the international break to prepare efficiently for a tough upcoming run of fixtures. Putting plans in place for the January transfer window also looks to be on the agenda at Old Trafford, with England international Sancho primed for an exit; however, the Red Devils won't let him leave for a cut-price fee or on a loan deal that would see them footing the majority of his wages, as per ESPN.

One other man who has been heavily linked with an exit in January is Brazilian winger Antony; nevertheless, Manchester United are set to block any approaches for the former Ajax man in January, according to Football Insider. Antony is yet to post a single goal or assist this term in 12 appearances and is in danger of losing his place to Alejandro Garnacho, though Ten Hag is still claimed to be a "huge fan" of his talent and would loath to lose his services in mid-season due to a lack of available options in the final third.

Now, transfer expert Romano has dropped some fresh insight into the situation of another Manchester United first-team star who has had his future called into question at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano drops Casemiro exit news

Earlier this week, talkSPORT claimed that Manchester United would listen to offers for experienced midfielder Casemiro amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs in the Brazil international. Incoming minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe would consider selling the former Real Madrid man to fund a rebuild at Old Trafford, according to the outlet.

Now, Romano has indicated that Casemiro's future will depend on a number of factors, as he stated in his Daily Briefing via CaughtOffside: "Currently I’m told it’s still quiet with regards to Saudi Pro League clubs and Casemiro. No concrete proposals or negotiations are taking place. We’ll have to see what happens in the summer, but it depends on a lot of factors including Saudi plans, Man United decisions and more. I think he’s still a very important player, but has just been unlucky with his injuries."

Casemiro has featured 12 times for Manchester United across all competitions this term, registering four goals and one assist in the process (Casemiro statistics – Transfermarkt). Currently sidelined due to a hamstring issue, there is still no clear indication of Casemiro's long-term future at Old Trafford being in a secure place.

Pakistan 'suffering a confidence crisis' – Mickey Arthur

The coach expressed disappointment with the bowlers’ inconsistency, and defended Sarfraz Ahmed, whom he called an ‘outstanding captain’

Shashank Kishore in Dubai24-Sep-20181:33

Result against India was a reality check – Mickey Arthur

Pakistan’s batting failed to step up for a second successive game against India. On Sunday, they were only a shade better than in their previous meeting, in which they had made 162. A target of 238 hardly challenged Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, who flattened Pakistan’s attack with centuries in a 210-run opening stand.Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has put the team’s batting failures down to a ‘confidence crisis’ within the team, but insisted the hard knocks from the Asia Cup would help the players learn as they build forward.”They’re suffering a confidence crisis at the moment, there’s a little bit of fear of failure in the dressing room, there’s a bit of a reality check for exactly where we are as a cricket team,” Arthur said. “In terms of the worst performance, nine wickets, it’s got to be up there but we’re on a journey, we’ll get better and stronger than this.”Arthur cited the example of Fakhar Zaman to underline the confidence crisis theory. Fakhar has looked far from settled when India have tried to attack him by bowling at the stumps, and has failed to provide his usual freewheeling starts. At the end of the first Powerplay on Sunday, he had limped to 12 off 31 balls.”We know cricket is a confidence game,” Arthur said. “Look at Fakhar Zaman, he’s an incredible player, he’s an X-factor player and we expect him to take the game on at the top of the order, but he’s doubting his game a little at the moment. We’ve got to just ride the wave with him. If we do that, when he comes out, he’ll be a better player for this. We’ve banked the work, the work is all done.”Arthur’s second concern was Pakistan’s bowlers and their deviation from set plans. Mohammad Amir has been wicketless for five straight ODIs now, stretching back to the tour of Zimbabwe in July. He’s now bowled 35.4 overs since taking his last ODI wicket, and this barren spell even led to his being left out of the game against Afghanistan on Friday. He was specifically brought back because Pakistan were playing India on a fresh surface with slightly more pace and carry compared to the other surfaces in this tournament, but his returns weren’t any better: 5-0-41-0. Shadab Khan too was rendered ineffective on the same surface where India’s wristspinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, bottled up Pakistan’s middle order and finished with combined figures of 4 for 87.”There was inconsistency in lines and lengths, and it’s disappointing,” Arthur said. “We went into panic mode. Once they got in, we started searching for wickets. The way you get wickets is, you’ve got to build pressure. We didn’t stay with our plans long enough. Our plans was to hit the hard lengths, hit top of off with our seamers, and then have the ability to put them under pressure in the middle. We’ve got to attack to take wickets, it didn’t happen and we weren’t patient enough. There were plans but they weren’t executed for long enough.”Associated Press

Arthur was effusive in his praise for Jasprit Bumrah’s death-bowling skills. Bumrah took 2 for 15 in his four-over spell at the end of the innings, nailing his yorkers perfectly, and Pakistan only managed 38 off their last seven overs.”We had an optional session the other day,” Arthur said. “We sat there for 20 minutes and I watched Jasprit Bumrah at the nets next to us, executing yorker after yorker after yorker, and he put that into practice here. In our review, we definitely will be showing our young bowlers his execution in the death overs, it was very good.”The Pakistan coach also disagreed that Sarfraz Ahmed’s captaincy was a reason for India walking home unchallenged. He explained that the decision to bat first, on what is increasingly looking like a chasing ground, was a collective one, taken only because the confidence crisis he referred to earlier could have hurt the batsmen while chasing, particularly against India’s spinners.”I have heard from the outside how we should’ve bowled first here, bat first there, but honestly, we look at how best we can win,” Arthur said. “We believe if we can get runs on the board and strike with the new ball, we can put India under pressure. We don’t want to expose our middle order against their spinners in a run chase, it’s going to just get bigger and bigger and bigger and our batsmen are going to get under pressure even more.”One of the solutions to the confidence crisis, he insisted, was to repose faith in the captain and allow him time and space to develop as a leader. “He’s great, his captaincy is growing,” he said, when asked if pressure was weighing Sarfraz down. “I’ve had the privilege to work with two outstanding captains (Graeme Smith and Michael Clarke), he’s the third. He’s a learning captain, the only one I’ve seen having a balance between on the field and off the field. Yes, we sit and debrief after every game in terms of tactics, he’s developing into a very, very good captain for Pakistan without a doubt.”There’s a silver lining for Pakistan yet. They still have a chance to make the final against India by beating Bangladesh on Wednesday. Arthur prescribed some fine-tuning of skills and mental make-up to help them bounce back.”It’s a confidence thing. Certainly in terms of the amount of work these guys have put in, it’s second to none,” he said. “These guys work every day on their catching, but the minute one goes down, it’s kind of like a disease. It catches off and catches on. It takes one good catch, one good innings or a five-for to turn it around and we will get the confidence back then. We’ve got to trust the skills to come out in the end. We’ve banked the work. It’s time for that to pay off.”

6/10 Spurs man who lost 71% duels was Ange’s true villain over Emerson

Tottenham Hotspur lost for the third Premier League match in succession as they let another lead slip in a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou's side had two weeks over the international break to work to bounce back from losses to Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers but failed to do so.

With the likes of James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven, among others, missing, Spurs took the lead through the rarely-seen Gio Lo Celso.

However, goals either side of half time from Pau Torres and Ollie Watkins secured all three points for the visitors as Tottenham failed to grab an equaliser.

It was a frustrating result and performance for Spurs as they fielded a makeshift side, with Emerson Royal lining up at centre-back and failing to deal with Watkins for the second Villa goal.

Emerson Royal's performance against Villa in numbers

The Brazilian defender, who is a right-back by trade, was deployed at the heart of the backline and was not sharp enough to close out quickly on the England international as the striker got between him and Ben Davies to slot into the back of the net.

It was a sloppy mistake and one that you could excuse due to him not being a natural centre-back who is used to dealing with those situations on a regular basis.

Aside from that, the former Barcelona man won the majority (3/5) of his duels and completed 97% of his attempted passes (92/95) across the 90 minutes.

This shows that the 24-year-old enforcer was a strong presence at the back and reliable in possession of the ball to help his side out in an unnatural position.

He was not the villain of the piece for Ange Postecoglou on Sunday. Instead, it was summer signing Brennan Johnson as the Wales international flattered to deceive in a frustrating display out wide.

Brennan Johnson's performance against Villa in numbers

The 22-year-old lightweight can be exciting to watch at times with his direct play and pace to get in behind and cause problems for opposition full-backs.

However, the end product also needs to be there in order for him to be an effective option for a team that is looking to compete at the top of the table.

In 90 minutes on the pitch, Johnson only created one chance for his teammates, failed with both of his attempted crosses, and was tackled in four of his five attempted dribbles.

The former Nottingham Forest man was also unable to find the back of the net from 0.62 xG (Expected Goals) worth of chances, which included a huge opportunity one-on-one against the goalkeeper that he could not poke past Emiliano Martinez to make it 2-2 during the second half.

brennan-johnson-tottenham-hotspur-injury-postecoglou-bryan-gil

Johnson, who lost 71% (5/7) of his duels throughout the match, had plenty of chances to make something happen in the final third and lacked the quality to do it.

As such, FootballLondon reporter Alasdair Gold handed him a rating of just 6/10 for his display and added that the forward "just couldn't force the ball home".

The Welsh forward missed the presentable chance that came his way and could not create anything of note for his teammates, which is why he was the true villain of the match instead of Emerson.

Hopefully, it was a learning experience for the summer signing and he will be able to put it right the next time he has the opportunity to be a difference-maker for Spurs.

Singapore crush Uganda; USA outlast Denmark to stay unbeaten

The Danes continued the trend of sides winning the toss and losing the match, becoming the ninth team in ten matches to do so at Division Three

Peter Della Penna in Muscat15-Nov-2018Crucial half-centuries from captain Chetan Suryawanshi and Manpreet Singh rescued Singapore from an early hole to take them to 204, which was easily defended in a rousing 63-run win over Uganda.Uganda won the toss and sent Singapore in, and Frank Nsubuga again heaped pressure on the opposition by bowling offspin with the new ball, ending with figures of 2 for 16 including five maidens. When Riazat Ali Shah struck with the final ball of the Powerplay, Singapore’s top three were gone with just 36 on the board. But Suryawanshi steadied the innings by dominating a 56-run stand with Rezza Gavnavi, who blocked at one end to make 10 off 53 balls while Suryawanshi counterattacked to eventually finish with 57 off 61 balls. The medium pace of Kenneth Waiswa and Deus Muhumuza eventually claimed both batsmen to put Singapore in a hole at 115 for 5 after 32 overs. However, Manpreet scored 59 off 79 balls and anchored the rest of the innings, doing an excellent job of shepherding the tail into the final over before he was last man out slogging across the line to be bowled for Riazat’s third wicket. The Oman house of horrors continued for Roger Mukasa as he was the second of three Uganda top-order batsmen to fall for a duck inside the first five overs to leave their chase reeling at 8 for 3. Ronak Patel and Muhumuza were dismissed off consecutive balls as Uganda slipped to 21 for 5. Their last recognised batsman, Dinesh Nakrani, fell in the 17th to make it 35 for 6.Singapore were on the verge of a massive net run rate boost for the tournament tiebreaker until Kenneth Waiswa showed some spine down the order, cracking an unbeaten 61 off 63 balls. But Riazat was the only one to offer him any support with 16 as nobody else crossed double-figures. New-ball medium pacer Janak Prakash came back for a late spell and dismissed Nsubuga for the eighth wicket to claim his third of the day before legspinner Anantha Krishna knocked over the rest of the tail as Uganda eventually subsided for 141 in 42 overs.Peter Della Penna

The Bajan pair of Hayden Walsh and Aaron Jones dug USA out of a deep hole at 87 for 5 with a 131-run partnership in a hard-fought 16-run win over Denmark. The Danes continued the trend of sides winning the toss and losing the match, becoming the ninth team in ten matches to do so at Division Three after sending USA in.USA had a methodical start from Jaskaran Malhotra and Monank Patel as Denmark opened with spin from both ends. It resulted in 42 dot balls in the Powerplay and though USA reached 61 for 0 in 15 overs, the pressure from Denmark’s spinners continued to build until both openers cracked.Monank was stumped for 22 charging Bashir Shah while Malhotra was run out for 39 two overs later after being sent back by Steven Taylor on a ball pushed to point. Three more wickets fell in quick succession as USA’s slide reached 26 for 5 by the time Walsh and Jones came together in the 26th over. The match was evenly balanced at the second drinks break at 134 for 5 in 37 overs, before pair took 70 off the next nine overs to swing momentum USA’s way. Walsh eventually fell for 57, scooping Jino Jojo to short fine leg to end the stand, before Jones was cleaned up by a yorker from Jonas Henriksen on the final ball of the 49th. Seven more runs off the final over took USA to 230 for 8.Denmark gave USA a scare in the chase, with openers Taranjit Bharaj and Hamid Shah reaching 46 for 0 by the end of the Powerplay. But Timil Patel struck a double-blow to start the 11th. The first of his four wickets was an lbw decision against captain Hamid for 12 that appeared to be going down leg.The next delivery, Timil had Freddie Klokker edging a googly to Taylor at slip. Klokker came into the match with 404 runs in six matches v USA at an average of 101 including two unbeaten centuries, but with their greatest batting nemesis gone, USA became favourites once again.Bharaj and Abdul Hashmi fought hard with an 87-run partnership to keep USA sweating in the field on the hottest day of the tournament. It took the return of Timil to break the stand as Hashmi fiddled across the line to be given leg before for 48. Bharaj seemed set to go past three figures but fell in the next over to Saurabh Netravalkar as a leading edge ballooned to mid-off for a simple catch for 69.Denmark’s tail wagged valiantly before Ali Khan’s direct hit from the long-off boundary in the 49th put USA one wicket from victory. With 17 to win off the final over, Ali clinched the match off the third ball by inducing a skier off Jonas Henriksen to extra cover.
