Ranking The Best West Ham United Kits Of All Time

Football kits are rapidly becoming fashion items across the globe as the popularity of retro shirts continues to grow. The designs are becoming intrinsically based upon the consumers' desires and most modern-day strips are tailored towards what will generate the most volume of sales.

So because of that, in recent years, the release of kits has become a main story across the industry as fans eagerly await the new style.

West Ham have certainly had their fair share of swanky and stylish efforts over the years and today at Football FanCast we've decided to take a look and rank some of their best strips.

The design information has been added wherever possible.

15 Away kit 2022/23

Probably not to everyone's taste but Umbro have tried something different here and we at FFC love it!

A white jersey can often be rather uninspiring but the splash of colours makes for a quirky feature and that's exactly what an away kit should be.

It will certainly be popular among Hammers fans, though, as it was worn during their historic Conference League triumph in Prague earlier this year.

Jarrod Bowen scored the late winner against Fiorentina to end the club's 43-year wait for a major trophy.

Design Information: "The Third Kit’s striking design features a White Shirt with a vibrant spark – inspired by the Club’s roots deep in the heart of London’s East End at Thames Ironworks."

14 Home kit 2013/14

Collared shirts feature very predominantly in our rankings! But they are marvellous additions to any football jersey and this home strip from a decade ago is a super one.

The evergreen Kevin Nolan sports this classy strip in the image above and led his side to a League Cup semi-final that season before suffering a bruising 9-0 aggregate defeat to eventual winners Manchester City.

13 Home Kit 2017/18

Donned by former West Ham midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, this Umbro-made strip has a clean and classy look. The claret and blue are broken up pleasantly and the subtle white detailing on the collar is a neat feature.

David Moyes was appointed Hammers boss on a six-month contract in November of that year after Slaven Bilić suffered the sack.

Moyes guided his side to a 13th-placed finish but wasn't offered a contract extension. He rejoined the club the following year, succeeding the man who replaced him, Manuel Pellegrini.

The former United boss has been in post ever since and has delivered European Football to the London Stadium and the aforementioned Conference League trophy.

Design information: "The claret and blue kit takes inspiration from the famous strip worn by Billy Bonds and Trevor Brooking in the 1976 European Cup Winners’ Cup final, with both West Ham legends featuring in the video campaign for the new kit."

12 Away kit 2010/11

A clean look here, manufactured by Macron, who delivered a sky blue and white away number with a claret stripe. The blue ribbed collar and sleeves are super additions and the old Premier League badge is worth noting, too. Iconic.

But the season ended in misery as the club finished rock bottom, thus suffering relegation to the Championship for the first time in seven years.

Blackpool and Birmingham joined them in the second tier.

11 Away kit 2014/15

This contrasting blue strip was sported in Sam Allarydce's final season at the East London club as they finished a respectable 12th.

The navy racing-esque stripe down the shirt is a cool quirk whilst the white sponsor breaks up the colours pleasantly.

A great effort by Adidas.

Diafra Sakho scored nine goals that year and finished as the club's top scorer.

10 Away kit 2003/04

Gold accents on football shirts are just magnificent. Reebok created a lovely away strip, here, and Jermaine Defoe, pictured above, enjoyed a fruitful campaign sporting it.

The diminutive-framed striker scored 11 goals in 19 appearances before joining Tottenham Hotspur in the winter transfer window for £7m.

Alan Pardew led his side to a fourth-placed finish before suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the playoff final to remain in the second tier for a second successive season.

9 Away kit 2021/22

This Umbro-made away strip sports a lovely white and pale blue contrast with thick stripes running down the centre of the jersey. The ribbed claret collar and armband are pleasant features.

The club finished seventh wearing this strip and were just two points adrift of sixth-placed Manchester United.

Mark Noble, pictured above, announced his retirement at the end of the season marking a remarkable 18-year career at the East London club, with two loan spells at Hull City and Ipswich Town during that period.

Design Infomation: "Inspired by the past, and our iconic 92-93 season Away shirt, the classic West Ham Away visual continues this season."

8 Home kit 1996/97

What an iconic sponsor Dagenham Motors is…

The sponsor on jerseys can often be a hindrance but in this case, it's actually an asset. The prominent badge is a lovely feature whilst the wide collar also adds value to the strip.

Though, the Irons only just survived relegation donning this number, finishing just two points ahead of the drop zone.

Paul Kitson ended the season as the top scorer with eight.

7 Home kit 1998-99

Manufactured by Pony, this number is the epitome of a classic retro shirt. The baggy oversized fit, the collar, the shirt sponsor and the old badge all contribute to a beautiful nostalgic jersey.

Trevor Sinclair, pictured above, racked up a healthy goal return that season, netting seven times and setting up five assists, helping his side achieve an eighth-placed finish.

6 Home kit 1986/87

This timeless number, sported by striker Tony Cottee, is a lovely strip that has grown with the eras. The v-neck collar paired with the Adidas original logo makes for a proper retro jersey and the sponsor isn't prominent, either. The classic three stripes running down the sleeves are worth noting, too.

However, the Hammers' campaign that year wasn't exactly one to remember, unlike their kit. A 15th-placed finish, under the stewardship of John Lyall, was rather underwhelming given they'd finished third the previous campaign.

Billy Bonds was voted Hammer of the Year.

Mushfiqur happy in new role as batsman – and father

With leadership and wicketkeeping duties removed from Mushfiqur Rahim’s hands, the former Bangladesh captain said he has begun to enjoy his sole role as a middle-order batsman

Mohammad Isam06-Feb-2018

Mushfiqur Rahim hugs Mominul Haque after the latter reached his century•Raton Gomes

Mushfiqur Rahim has already made a sound start to his new role in the Bangladesh team: that of just a batsman. Coincidentally, it has come at a time of personal joy. On the day after the Chittagong Test, his wife Jannatul Kifayat gave birth to their first child.Ahead of their training session at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Monday, Mushfiqur treated everyone to sweets. The 92 first-innings runs in Chittagong must have added to his joy as it was an important contribution to the team, while also giving him a personal boost. In December, BCB had ousted Mushfiqur as the Test captain (handing over the job to Shakib Al Hasan) after Bangladesh’s diabolical tour of South Africa where he also courted controversy by criticising the fast bowlers and suggesting that the team management gets away with losses while the players don’t. With Liton Das also being given a longer rope as the regular wicketkeeper, Mushfiqur’s job in the team became more condensed.Mushfiqur said that now he has to solely think as a batsman, and he is enjoying the new role. “There was always pressure but as a captain, I was an automatic choice,” Mushfiqur said. “Now as a top-order batsman, I have to perform. I tried to give my best in the last game. I was unlucky in the second innings, the ball wasn’t that great. I will keep trying, and get more runs in the next game.”I had three jobs and now I have one job. I always try to perform my responsibilities to the best of my ability. I scored while being the captain and wicketkeeper and I even got out for a duck. I have to face whatever comes in front of me, and go forward. I am enjoying it.”Mushfiqur said that he misses at least one side of wicketkeeping, which allowed him to have a closer look at the pitch. But, otherwise, he believes Liton is in it for the long haul. “I always enjoy fielding. Keeping wicket of course gives you a better perspective, especially about the wicket,” he said. “But I am happy. Liton is batting and keeping well and I think he can give serve Bangladesh cricket for eight to 10 years.”Although Shakib had inherited his job, Mahmudullah was the captain in the first Test that Mushfiqur has played after losing his captaincy because of Shakib’s injury. Mushfiqur said that Mahmudullah is a kind of captain who chooses to lead by example.”I liked his captaincy,” Mushfiqur said. “He has been a good captain at the domestic level including the BPL. He tries to lead by example with his performance. He says what he believes in, which also inspires me. The team is really looking forward to playing under him in Dhaka.”

Liam Dawson, Hasan Ali demolish Lahore Qalandars

And in their chase, Peshawar Zalmi cruised to a ten-wicket victory courtesy a hundred-run partnership between Kamran Akmal (57*) and Tamim Iqbal (37*)

The Report by Danyal Rasool03-Mar-2018

Getty Images

In a nutshellThe template doesn’t change for Lahore Qalandars. They got off to a blazing start in the Powerplay again with Fakhar Zaman smashing 25 in the first two overs. Once the first six overs had ended, they began to lose wickets and the wheels came off rapidly. Peshawar Zalmi skittled them out for 100, the lowest total in the PSL this year. Soon after, they became the fifth team to inflict defeat on Brendon McCullum’s beleaguered side. This was the most resounding one yet, the first 10-wicket defeat in the history of the PSL.The collapse this time was even more dramatic than previous games, tempered only by its predictability. After reaching 57 for one at the end of the Powerplay, they failed to build on it through the middle overs, continuing to go for rash shots and losing wickets rapidly in the process. Before you knew it, the tail was in, and Peshawar, further strengthened by the return of Hasan Ali, prowled ominously. The chase was everything Lahore are not: calm, clinical, mature and professional. It required just openers Tamim Iqbal and Kamran Akmal to brush aside Lahore. Kamran scored a 47-ball 57, while Tamim was unbeaten on 36 as the chase effectively became a stroll early on. Lahore’s bowlers were toothless, their fielding uninspired, their captain out of ideas – and their side very likely out of the tournament already.Where the match was wonA chase of 101 isn’t daunting by any means, but many teams thought processes get muddled while assessing how to go about a small chase. Not Peshawar Zalmi, whose openers were as assured as could be hoped in the situation. They got their eye in for the first couple of overs, not letting the lack of runs worry them. Inevitably, the runs came once they were settled at the crease. Lahore weren’t good enough in the field either, dropping a catch early on, and allowing themselves errors they could ill-afford. It wasn’t Lahore’s charity to give, and Peshawar didn’t need it at any rate, the opening pair ensuring no one else in the dugout was disturbed. The men that won itHasan Ali hasn’t bowled for over a month, but he didn’t look any worse for it. Skiddy, quick and consistent, he bowled in the Powerplay when Fakhar was in blistering form, keeping that over to just three runs. He got rid of the McCullum, and was instrumental in orchestrating Lahore’s collapse, cleaning up Sunil Narine and wrapping things up with a third wicket for good measure.Another newcomer into the side didn’t do much worse either. Liam Dawson was brought in to replace Darren Sammy. It doesn’t bear repeating that those are big shoes to fill. But Dawson was up to the challenge, ripping the Lahore top order apart with his left-arm spin. He dismissed Fakhar and Dinesh Ramdin off just his second and third deliveries, and overall figures of 4-0-20-3 suggest he’s more than just a back-up in Peshawar side.Where they standLahore look to have taken out a lease on the basement of the table, firmly sixth after their fifth successive defeat. Peshawar are third, having won three of their five games.

Arsenal team news: £265k-p/w star with Bergkamp vibes could now start

Arsenal are back in Premier League action again today, but will face an almighty task in finally toppling Everton despite what the form card says…

Who could start for Arsenal vs Everton?

Goodison Park is a place many teams struggle at, with the home support often proving to be the difference when they are on form. The Gunners are one side that has struggled in particular when visiting Merseyside, having lost their last four of their last five games at the Old Lady, with their last win coming in 2017.

So, even if the Toffees are winless after four games and sit in the relegation zone, Mikel Arteta will know all too well that they are not a side to be discounted.

The Spaniard has a host of decisions to make following the conclusion of the international break, which allowed much of his squad to crawl back towards full fitness. That additional injection of quality could prove pivotal in recapturing their form, as despite remaining unbeaten the performances have hardly been outstanding.

Bukayo Saka's fitness comes as an almighty relief to fans of the visiting side, with their only major absentee other than Jurrien Timber being Thomas Partey.

However, it is up front which is truly set to be bolstered, with the frightening return of Gabriel Jesus.

How many goals has Jesus scored for Arsenal?

Since joining last summer, the Brazilian marksman has seen his time at the Emirates largely marred by persisting injury woes. First having to undergo knee surgery after the World Cup, he has started this season in a similarly unreliable fashion, failing to make a league start despite scoring last time out.

gabriel-jesus

That appearance off the bench should offer confidence that the 26-year-old is now ready to start, and once again wreak havoc on Everton.

After all, the former Manchester City star has a rich history of scoring against this side, with his eight goals against them actually making the Toffees his favourite opponent to face alongside Watford.

The 5 foot 9 attacker's trickery and clinical nature aid such a notion, which was outlined last campaign when he maintained fitness.

Across just 26 league appearances he would score 11 and assist seven, however, such form had already been predicted by pundit Chris Iwelumo: "I think that is an outstanding signing. I think a team that plays an attractive brand of football, that creates lots of chances, and he's tried and tested in the Premier League. I think it's a win-win.

"What Jesus brings is the football intelligence as well, he brings other players in, he creates for others."

To support this notion further, the £265k-per-week maestro, who Ian Wright has likened to Dennis Bergkamp, also maintained 1.2 key passes per game in the league last season too, with his 1.3 tackles per game emphasising his work rate and ability to spearhead the press that could silence the home crowd, via Sofascore.

Given Arteta's side have seemingly lacked that cutting edge in the final third to cap off the endless creativity they boast, Goodison Park could play host to a masterclass today to finally end their near-six-year hoodoo.

Jesus has been a miss for the Gunners in their opening four fixtures, with their clash with Everton offering a fine opportunity to truly kickstart their season. A strong showing today could prove pivotal for their title aspirations, but history dictates they will not have it easy.

As bad as Vicario: Spurs dud who lost the ball 23 times must be dropped

Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistent form came back to bite them on Sunday afternoon.

Despite going into their Premier League game away to Nottingham Forest off the back of a draw away to Newcastle United and a win at home to Brentford, Thomas Frank’s side looked second-best from the first minute to the last.

The North Londoners were unable to keep the hosts at bay, unable to create decent chances for themselves and generally looked bereft of ideas.

There were poor performers wherever you looked for Spurs, but two really stood out, one of which was Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario's poor performance vs Forest

Vicario is a particularly frustrating goalkeeper: in one game, he can look like one of the best in the league, pulling off sensational saves, and the next game, he can look like one of the worst.

Unfortunately for Frank and Co, Sunday’s match against Forest most certainly fell into the latter category.

For example, while he is not entirely blameless for the first goal, most of the blame for the hosts’ second should fall at his feet.

If the Italian were better positioned for Callum Hudson-Odoi’s audacious effort, then it would have been a relatively straightforward stop, and the Lilywhites would’ve still been in the game.

Unfortunately, the former Empoli man got it all wrong, and while he made some saves after the fact, it was too little too late.

It wasn’t just his shot-stopping that was poor either, as in 96 minutes of action, the 29-year-old completed just 21 of 31 passes, was accurate in just three of his 12 attempted long balls and managed to lose the ball ten times despite taking just 39 touches.

In all, it was a truly terrible showing from Vicario, but while the media are mainly focusing on him, one of his teammates was arguably just as bad.

The Spurs dud who was as bad as Vicario

The bad news for Frank and Spurs fans is that you could realistically make the case for any number of players being the worst on Sunday, from Richalison to Mohammed Kudus and even Micky Van de Ven.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

However, when it comes to the outfield player who was as disappointing and as detrimental to the side as Vicario, it is impossible to look past Pedro Porro.

The Spanish full-back is enormously talented, and at his best can be far more of an attacking outlet than most others in his position.

Unfortunately, he’s not been anywhere near his best for some time, and was arguably at his worst on Sunday.

The former Sporting CP was entirely ineffective in attack, a massive liability in defence and, unsurprisingly, the watching press were not impressed with what they saw.

For example, the Standard’s Matt Verri awarded the full-back a 2/10 match rating, writing that he was ‘shocking defensively’ and that he ‘frustrated throughout.’

This may all sound a little hypobolic, or unfair, but the 26-year-old’s statistics prove otherwise.

In his 96 minutes on the pitch, the Spaniard produced an expected assists figure of just 0.04, lost four of his six ground duels, committed two fouls, failed to play a key pass, failed in 100% of his dribbles and took 81 touches, but lost the ball 23 times.

Ultimately, Sunday was a terrible day at the office for the entire Spurs’ squad, but Vicario and Porro were particularly poor, and Frank should really be looking to drop them.

Spurs must sack Frank this week and hire the "best coach in the PL"

Tottenham Hotspur suffered arguably their worst defeat of the Thomas Frank era on Sunday.

Surrey confirm Morkel capture

The arrival of the South African fast bowler on a two-year Kolpak deal will invite hopes of a Championship challenge

Subhankar Bhattacharya10-Apr-2018Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has signed a two-year contract with Surrey. Morkel will slot into Surrey’s setup as a Kolpak registered player and will be available to play in all three formats of the game.Having retired only a few weeks ago from international cricket, several English counties had expressed their interest in roping in the big South African, but Surrey possessed the most financial muscle and his presence will encourage hopes that they can press for their first Championship since 2002.Morkel called time on his international career at the end of what was a controversial Test series against Australia, but one in which he became only the fifth South African bowler to bag 300 Test wickets. He also took the Man of the Match award in his penultimate Test, fittingly on his home ground at Cape Town, for his match-winning figures of 9 for 110.Known for generating genuine pace and bounce, Morkel is likely to extract the best out of The Oval’s otherwise gentle surface. The presence of another South African Kolpak in county cricket will invite criticism, but Surrey are rightly proud of their largely homegrown staff.”It is a real honour that Surrey asked me to join after my retirement from international cricket,” Morkel said. “I’ve got fond memories of playing at the Kia Oval and am looking forward to settling into London with my family for the summer.”Although he arrives on Wednesday, Morkel is not expected to take to the field in Surrey’s opening home fixture against Hampshire which begins on April 20. With his deal with Surrey confirmed, the paceman joins a list of current South African cricketers who will feature in this year’s county season, including Aiden Markram, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn.
