The lack of clarity over Manchester United's ownership situation could put them at a disadvantage when it comes to summer transfers, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

What's going on with Manchester United's takeover?

There have been multiple bids for ownership of the club, and it had been mooted that the Glazers could even stay in some capacity, depending on how many shares they sell.

Protests continue amongst United fans, who want a full sale, and the lack of progress in the last few months may raise some concerns as the season draws to a close.

Speaking on The United Stand, Romano pointed out that the groundwork is already being laid for some high profile summer transfers elsewhere, and United could fall behind whilst they wait to see what kind of business they can do depending on the outcome of the ownership battle.

"Now it's on the Glazers, now they have to clarify what they want to do with the preferred bidder, what they want to do in terms of timing, in terms of the next few weeks. The transfer window is coming. Other clubs are already in direct contact with players, in direct contact with agents, preparing and planning for their summer transfer window. Real Madrid are in an advanced process to sign with Bellingham. So you can't lose time now," he stated.

"I think this is absolutely crucial for Manchester United, and they have to make sure the situation will be clarified in May. So let's see what happens to the next seven, ten days.

"This is the feeling of sources close to the process to try to clarify the situation, but again, it's on the Glazers, and I think for Manchester United it will happen very soon, otherwise, on the market, you can have big problems in terms of planning for your transfer window."

How important is the transfer window for Man United?

Although they have made good progress under Erik ten Hag, winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final, there is a lot of work to do in the upcoming transfer window, and United cannot afford to fall behind.

The futures of loanees Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer need to be clarified, whilst there is much speculation about both the goalkeeping and striking positions in the team.

Harry Kane has been linked as Ten Hag's desired number nine, whilst it seems that David De Gea is set to sign a new deal despite making a number of errors this season.

Clarity over their ownership situation needs to be found before the window opens, so Ten Hag can recruit properly in the transfer window. With a top four place looking likely, but not yet certain, Champions League football could help United lure players to the club, but if they are unable to make transfers whilst there continues to be delays in any takeover, then they could face a difficult campaign next season.

Mohammad Azharullah took advantage of perfect conditions for swing bowling to take 6 for 68 and give Northamptonshire control on the first day of their Specsavers Championship match against Sussex at Arundel.The 32-year-old from Pakistan, who took ten wickets against the same opponents in 2014, helped dismiss Sussex for 178 despite 75 from opener Chris Nash. Northants then reached 43 for 1 in reply when play ended at 7.57pm with six overs of the day’s allocation not bowled because of bad light.Azharullah benefitted from bowling a full length and letting the overcast, humid conditions do the rest, although he was also helped by indifferent shot selection by some of Sussex’s batsmen.Mark David, Sussex’s coach, said: “It has been very wet for the last few days and although the groundstaff worked tremendously hard the wicket wasn’t as dry as they would have liked and that, combined with the overhead conditions, made it very hard for batting.”Nash and Ed Joyce put on 42 in ten overs without alarm but Sussex’s troubles began when Azharullah bowled Joyce (10) off his pads and he then struck with successive balls in his next over. What’s the latest Spurs transfer news?

Chaos is currently engulfing Spurs as chairman Daniel Levy keeps up the chase for a new permanent manager, nearly two months after parting company with Antonio Conte.

Reports suggest that the north Londoners are also after a new sporting director to replace Fabio Paratici, with the likes of Benfica chief Rui Pedro Braz in the frame.

On top of all this, the likes of star striker Harry Kane and long-serving goalkeeper Hugo Lloris are entering the final 12 months of their deals, making this summer a potentially crucial one for Tottenham.

Spurs must also get to work on identifying summer transfer targets as the window’s opening is just around the corner, and there has been some progress in that regard according to reports.

Should Spurs sell Lo Celso?

Much could depend on who Spurs appoint as their next manager, given they might actually fancy Lo Celso in their starting eleven.

The South American has been called a “brilliant player” by former Tottenham goalkeeper and England international Paul Robinson, with Lo Celso arguably having the ability to resurrect his career at Spurs if given an opportunity.

He actually played a pivotal role under Emery on Villarreal’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season, with the 27-year-old impressing in parts this campaign too.

As per WhoScored, he’s even averaged more key passes per 90 than any other Villarreal player in La Liga, and at the very least he could fetch a fairly decent price tag if Spurs do opt to sell.

A career-best 138 not out from Adam Rossington has put Northamptonshire in a position to push for their first win of the season in the Specsavers County Championship.Rossington, who was playing as a specialist batsman because of an injury to his left hand, hit five sixes and 16 fours in an impressive display to help his side establish a first innings lead of 300 against Sussex at Arundel.They declared on 478 for 5 but Sussex openers Ed Joyce and Chris Nash successfully negotiated 24 hours before stumps to reach 70 without loss, still 230 behind with a day to go.The experienced pair adopted a risk-free approach against attacking fields with Nash unbeaten on 36 and Joyce 28 not out.Rossington had earlier helped Northants speed towards their declaration 25 minutes after tea on the third day in an unbroken stand of 199 in 39 overs with wicketkeeper David Murphy, a sixth wicket county record against Sussex, beating the 178 by Rob Bailey and David Ripley at Northampton in 1990.The former Middlesex batsman was particularly savage on legspinner Luke Wells, hitting him for four sixes before swiping Ajmal Shahzad over the long-on rope. Viktor Gyokeres is a target for Crystal Palace this summer as they aim to add more firepower to the side.

The Eagles have scored just 35 goals this season and in order to climb the table next term, they need more goalscorers – Gyokeres may be their man.

What's the transfer latest on Viktor Gyokeres?

24-year-old Gyokeres has attracted a lot of interest with his displays in the Championship this season. He has 22 goals and ten assists in 47 games for Coventry City as the Sky Blues target promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs.

According to Sky Sports, Wolves are leading the race for Gyokeres' signature but West Ham and Crystal Palace are also interested. The forward may also remain at Coventry next season if they are successful in their playoff campaign.

There aren't currently "ongoing negotiations" but once Coventry's future is more clear, there will be more movement on Gyokeres, who teammate Maxime Biamou has previously called "unplayable".

Biamou's praise is certainly not an outrageous claim when you look at the deeper stats for this season. Gyokeres ranks in the 99th percentile for "Shot-Creating Actions", according to Fbref, and is in the 99th percentile for "Progressive Carries", proving to be so much more than just a classic number nine.

Simply put, Gyokeres is made for creating and scoring goals. It's no surprise that Premier League sides are keen to recruit him as he has the build, stats and attitude to succeed in the top flight.

Will Gyokeres succeed in the Premier League?

It seems a relatively safe bet to back Gyokeres when he makes the step up to the Premier League. In the Championship, he looks out of place with his technical ability deserving of competing against the best teams in England. He's over 6 foot 1 and clearly has the power and pace required to be a nuisance to defenders, dubbed "very strong" by Slaven Bilic.

Gyokeres is an expert at running the channels and is almost reminiscent of Kevin De Bruyne as far as his dribbling technique is concerned – he isn't a tricky or technical dribbler but his decision making and timing is very impressive, allowing him to breeze past defenders at will.

Premier League defences will certainly have their hands full should he make a move to the top flight this summer. For Palace, he would fit in very well with some of the Eagles' more attack-minded players.

Specifically, it would be interesting to see him combine with Wilfred Zaha and Michael Olise.

Tottenham Hotspur's new manager will face an immediate "big problem", due to the uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane's future, according to talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor.

After parting ways with Antonio Conte near the end of March, Tottenham finally appear to be making some progress towards appointing a new manager, with a report from De Telegraaf detailing that Arne Slot has agreed to take over.

Talks are currently ongoing regarding the appointment of the Dutchman, with Spurs needing to pay the £6m release clause included in his contract with Feyenoord, and it appears as though a deal could now be close.

However, in an interview with Football Insider, Agbonlahor has recently queried why any top manager would want to take over at N17 at the moment, given that they will face immediate issues.

The pundit said: “It is very odd to go into that club at the moment it seems as though you would be setting yourself up for failure.

“I think the big problem at Spurs for potential managers is that they do not know the future of Harry Kane, they do not know the amount of money they have got to spend in the summer.

“They can’t choose their own sporting director because that is what Nagelsmann wanted and maybe Daniel Levy said no.

“As much as managers want to manage, they want to right job and that is why Spurs will struggle to get a top manager.“

Will Kane leave Tottenham?

Any new manager will undoubtedly be keen to keep hold of Kane, given that he has been a shining light for the Lilywhites in a very poor season, scoring a remarkable 28 Premier League goals, while he has also picked up seven assists.

That said, it would not be a surprise if the England captain does want to seek pastures new this summer, given that Spurs are now unlikely to qualify for European competition of any description, currently sitting in eighth place.

Manchester United have identified the 29-year-old as a top target, while Paris Saint-Germain have also met with his representatives, and the allure of Champions League football could mean the striker is keen to join either club.

Given Tottenham's very poor 2022-23 campaign, it is likely the best thing any new manager can hope for is that Kane is willing to run down his contract, and The Telegraph have previously reported he may be willing to do so.
