West Ham United are plotting a move to bring Flamengo striker Pedro to the Premier League this summer, according to reports.

What's the latest on Pedro's future?

David Moyes signed Danny Ings from Aston Villa in January, but his other options at centre-forward are Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca, who are both facing uncertain futures.

Irons veteran Antonio reportedly admitted to one of his close friends during the final days of the previous window that he could have been on the move, while the latter is a player who the club are open to offers for, with the Italian having failed to impress during his debut season, so reinforcements could well be needed at the end of the campaign.

Brazil international Pedro only joined Flamengo permanently in January 2021 and his contract isn’t set to expire until the end of 2027, but having scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 15 appearances this season, as per Transfermarkt, he has reportedly caught the eye at the London Stadium.

According to Football Insider, West Ham are set to “line up” a deal for Pedro should they avoid relegation from the Premier League. The E20 side have recognised the 25-year-old’s prolific form which has been “brought to the attention” of several unnamed clubs in the English top flight. The Irons will “keep tabs” on their target for the remainder of the current campaign as they look to secure a new forward ahead of the forthcoming season.

Would Pedro be a good signing for West Ham?

West Ham won’t yet know what their budget will be for the summer, as that will likely ride on whether they still have their top-flight status intact, but should they be able to afford Pedro, it would be a massive coup if they manage to secure his services, as he has been hailed an “excellent finisher” by BBC commentator Guy Mowbray.

The Adidas-sponsored striker has posted an impressive 103 goal contributions (81 goals and 22 assists) in 170 Flamengo appearances where the £30k-per-week ace, among strikers at a similar level, currently ranks in the top percentile in various goalscoring departments, as well as in the 95th percentile for shots, via FBref.

The Rio de Janeiro native also knows what it takes to be successful having secured five trophies at his current club, whilst being individually recognised for his efforts having been named the top goalscorer at the FIFA Club World Cup for 2022/23, so this is arguably a no-brainer of a deal to complete should the opportunity arise for the Hammers.

With the summer transfer window now looming, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be fearing that there will be significant interest in his key Parkhead figures, with the club's rampant form having seemingly brought with it some unwanted attention.

Among those who could well be of interest to clubs across Europe is midfield maestro, Matt O'Riley, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano having revealed that clubs in the Bundesliga and the Premier League are keeping tabs on his progress.

While the respected insider has suggested that the 22-year-old is currently "happy" in Glasgow – having arrived from MK Dons back in January 2022 – journalist Dean Jones has suggested that the Denmark U21 international "could leave" the club this summer.

The one-time Fulham ace – who bagged a brace in the weekend win over Kilmarnock – was previously said to be attracting interest prior to the start of the campaign, with the Scottish champions reportedly having been keen to demand a fee of around £20m for any potential sale.

With the youngster having only been at the club for just over a year it would represent a real blow to see him move on so swiftly, with the 6 foot 2 "magician" – as per talent scout Jacek Kulig – having again been integral in the club's title charge this term.

It would, however, perhaps be of greater concern for Postecoglou and co to lose O'Riley's midfield colleague, Reo Hatate, with the Japanese international having also been linked with a move away ahead of next season, amid interest from Brighton and Hove Albion.

For all the brilliance of O'Riley's time in Scotland to date, it is arguably Hatate who has been the "best signing" of Postecoglou's tenure, according to pundit Frank McAvennie.

The 25-year-old – who joined from Kawasaki Frontale in the same month as his young teammate – has been truly "outstanding" over the past year or so, according to ex-Bhoys star Chris Sutton, having pulled the strings in the centre of the park so impressively.

While currently sidelined with injury, the £12k-per-week man – who has also been hailed as "meticulous" by Sutton – had been a shining light prior to that recent blow, providing eight goals and nine assists in 38 games across all fronts.

Hailed as the "best player in Scotland" earlier this season by journalist Ryan McGinlay, Hatate was particularly impressive in the League Cup final triumph back in February, having been "head and shoulders above the rest" on the day, according to pundit Mark Wilson.

A midfield machine who is simply "everywhere", in the words of former Scotland international Alan Hutton, the diminutive gem does appear almost irreplaceable due to his quality both in and out of possession.

For Postecoglou to lose a man who has been the "best of the bunch" with regard to signings made under the Greek-Aussie, according to McAvennie, would be a significant setback – even more so than the possible loss of O'Riley.

Understandably, for the match in Belgium last week, David Moyes named a much-changed line up as he attempts to balance the club’s European excursion and bid for top-flight survival.

Aston Villa moved up to fifth place in the Premier League as they eased to a 1-0 win against fellow European hopefuls Fulham at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

Tyrone Mings was the man to break the deadlock in the first half when he headed in John McGinn's corner, and that would prove to be the only goal of the game on a surprisingly quiet night in the Midlands.

The in-form Ollie Watkins looked a constant threat throughout and came close with a couple of efforts but Mings' goal was enough to seal another vital three points.

While the England centre-back will take the plaudits after his goal and his role in Villa's clean sheet, it was arguably McGinn who was Emery's best performer against the Cottagers.
